I agree with your posts,for the majority of dogs.
But I think you would have a lot of ideas turned on their head if you could "meet" a dog owned by my son.
No 2 ways about it,shes protecting.Acts like a lab in normal situations,placid,calm good with cats and other animals,strangers.But threaten her family...or even if we were to get angry at some one else she will back us up.No way would she bite the wrong target.
I doubt very much distance would mean a thing.
Its her line we have now and they are all very protective,high pack drive, very affectionate and intelligent enough some are known to be able to follow a chain of commands in sentence form.And very dominant with high fight drive.
Having said that,I would never have known it was possible if my 1st dog hadn't been the same and I searched a lifetime to find this again.
