Girl, 4, killed in pit bull cross attack at St Albans | Adelaide Now
What can I say?.... Just so sad.. I feel for the family. When will dog owners ever learn?
I saw this on FB this arvo, bloody shocking and so sad for all involved especially that poor innocent child![]()
They need to be banned outright, across the board.
I am deadset against banning ANY breed... But I ask myself what other option is there?.. We need to protect our children, and never will ALL people owning these breeds ever be responsible..fair enough its a very small minority... But one fatal dog attack is one too many. The owner of the dog should also be convicted of manslaughter!!!

Will not stop anything Rob. When there are no pitbulls they will then turn to Rotties, ban them and then they turn to Dutchies and so on. We need tougher penalties which include manslaughter, wrongfull death. Most of all we need to find how these idiots end up with a dog like this.
Of what I heard it sounded like a pigging dog half mastiff have pit. Trained to hunt down prey and kill it. Interesting only the pitbull is being mentioned in the news.
This has to do with basic responsibility. These people will escape with no jail time at all. The dog will be blamed because it is easier than developing tougher laws.
Vendo.

I was a huge supporter of Anti-BSL and the like but enough is enough. If they do implement weight restrictions and licensing then I am all for it. Children are more important then dogs, i was raised with dogs, sharing a meal with dogs, i raise mine this way too, but something is definitely changing and i don't know if there are more poor breedings taking place or just irresponsible parents but it has got to stop! We can chant, and rally about responsible pet ownership till we are exploding but clearly it does not work. I am prepared to be debated against for my words here, but if i wrote about how it's only the owner's fault, i seriously would not believe my own post. Also when dogs bite/attack i find it shocking when owners surrender another dog and hide the culprit.
Vendo, i see your point, but in all honesty i doubt Rotts/Dutchies would be next unless it was a blanket weight restriction, then that must also include Lab's, GSD's etc MANY if not most med-large breeds... I will take that if it means no more children are hurt.
Cheers
Amy

I stand by my opinion that to own certain breeds you need to be licensed. Also the selected breeds that you need a license to own, the owner by law must have their dog assessed at certain stages of it's maturing, by a professional, until the dog is fully mature, and deemed safe by the professional. Why can't governments bring in a ScH BH type system, that for the first 18 months of the dogs life it is assessesd twice a year? Also you need a license to breed and sell dogs.
Something needs to be done... I agree we should never blame the breed.. we should always blame the dogs owners.. But how does this stop dogs getting into the wrong hands and potentially killing children, and being a menace to society? Unfortunately.. governments will ban what they can't or will not control.. It's easier to ban than to enforce and maintain a law...

I used to believe that if they banned a breed, they would eventually move on to the next breed.. I don't believe this anymore. Governments have it in for the Pit Bull, because of it's potential. This breed genetically has very strong fight instinct, and therefor should not be allowed to be owned by just anyone.. especially for the sake of boosting ego's!

Not to anthropomorphise here but we clearly have parents not suited to raising children, could we actually have canines not set up genetically to cope also? If a dog is Very high prey, perhaps it should not live with children? unless properly housed (kenneled) . Mark i agree!

At the end of the day this breed was only bred for killing and fighting and nothing else, in our society we do not have a purpose for this type of dog.
They will not move on to the next dog, if they ban these dogs.
We have had dog bites since time begun, even as kids we got bitten, but the dog would give us a bite and warn us and keep going, but these dogs will grab and just hang on until it has killed its prey, there is a big difference.
They are not going to police it, For christ sake they do not police child tampers and crooks etc., do you think they are going to throw resources into this, the only solution is to ban them across the board.
No $4500 fine for the death of a child, but a $100,00 fine and 10 years jail for owning one. Sure there are a minority of these pitty type dogs that don't display these traits ,but that is not good enough.
All this bh testing and shit is not going to stop dog attacks that is alot of crap. Dogs do what they do when they are alone or get out.
There is no more time for do gooders and shit, a dog breed is not more important than human life, sit back and have a think if that was your daughter.
