Teen charged with police dog drowning bid
A teenager has been charged with trying to drown a Queensland police dog by pushing its head under water in a creek.
Police in the southeast Queensland town of Hervey Bay went to investigate reports of two people trespassing in several yards in Caddy Avenue, Urraween, about 10pm (AEST) on Sunday.
The intruders also allegedly threw bottles at residents who challenged them, a police statement said.
Police dog Quattro and his handler began tracking the intruders and soon located two youths.
When ordered to stop, they split up and ran in different directions.
A juvenile was arrested a short time later, and Quattro was released to apprehend the second youth.
Quattro bailed him up in a creek.
Police allege he attempted to drown the police dog by pushing Quattro's head under the water.
The dog handler intervened, and the alleged offender was arrested.
Quattro sustained no injuries.
The man received a dog bite to his leg.
A 17-year-old youth from Urangan has been charged with attempting to kill the dog, two counts of assault, four counts of trespass and obstructing police. He will appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court.
A 16-year-old youth has been charged with obstructing police, two counts of assault and three counts of trespass.
He will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

I thought the same thing initially Nev but I wonder how deep the creek was? I have recently read a new article which makes me think that the creek was not that deep.
Teenager 'tried to drown police dog' as it arrested him | Courier Mail
A TEENAGER has been charged for trying to drown a police dog that "arrested" him last night.
The dog, Quattro, received no injuries but did inflict a leg injury on 17-year-old he apprehended.
Police were called to a series of disturbances in Hervey Bay about 10pm yesterday where two teens, 16 and 17, were allegedly trespassing and throwing bottles at residents at Urraween.
When the dog squad arrived, the pair made a run for it in different directions.
But the plucky canine was released and made a beeline for the older culprit, pinning by the leg in a nearby creek.
"It will be alleged that the man then attempted to drown the police dog by pushing the dog’s head underwater," a police spokeswoman said.
"The dog was released when the handler intervened."

The 17-year-old, of Urangan in Hervey Bay, was charged with attempting to kill a police dog.
He was charged also with two counts of assault, four counts of trespass and obstruct police.
He has been ordered to appear today in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court.
His alleged accomplice, 16, was charged with obstruct police, two counts of assault and three counts of trespass.
Because he is classed as a juvenile in Queensland, he will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 1992.
I doesn't sound too deep I agree Jeff if the dog got a leg bite. If the dog was keyed well on the leg, it would be easy to take him under water and of course he can't breath. I am not confident with dogs fighting in the water and is probably one environment if the offender is thinking clearly could beat the dog's apprehension. I have heard stories of the Kangaroo trick with roo dogs, get them in the water and old roo drowns them???.
