    70k police pup

I was just looking around at police dogs etc, and came across this website: archieves of police news from W.A. I used to live in Maylands in Perth where the academy is anyway i was amazed at how much it costs to train each pup.

It costs about $70,000 to turn an eight-week-old pup into a fully trained police dog.

if you add up food, vet bills, staff wages, time etc sounds about right

add up how much your own dog costs you in a year

I've seen on tv that police are under paid, especially for putting themselves on the line. Just seem's massive, like looking at dogs on guarddogtraining website and there was a 50 -60k doberman, to the normal person sounds costly!

By the way, I haven't got a dog atm.. Been looking into buying my first working pup for later this year.

As far as police or government go $50k to $70K - just look at cost of dogs - pups $2000 - boarding of pup or dog $20 per day - that’s is almost $10'000. Put training into it , and general government up keep and there you go.

When we train that is our time, every time someone looks at a dog in government agencies then there another few dollars gone.

Might be a reason why so many police and even military departments in US and other countries look at buying dogs from private operators.

At the end of it the officer also has to have a vehicle allocated to him or her so ...... maybe a bit more.

As far as certain training centres in Sydney go. Would love to learn their sales techniques.

I can now understand the costs etc, but when you say you have bought a dog for 30k or something people will look at you like your an idiot because they couldn't justify spending so much money on a dog, I was recently wanting to buy an imported working line doberman (cropped ears & docked tail) from von liston but I was buying a house so I couldn't afford to buy one.

They've removed the 45k plus doberman but there's a 35k one. Doberman Sales - Worldwide Delivery

I'm not trying to say a dog's supposed to be worth a set amount of money, but speaking to random's they'd think your a fool for wasting so much money.

Depends which side of the fence you are on,

Like I said I would love to know the secrets of one or two of the centers in Sydney. Not how they do it but how they get away with it.

If however a dog is worth it then great.

I agree with your comment, but I won't even tell family or people at work that i'm wanting to spend $2k for a working line pup. As they don't understand..

I just think the cost of importing a pet is crazy.
