Did you all see the news last night?

Did anyone see the news last night on ACA and Today Tonight?
All us AmStaff breeders and owners have got a big shit fight on our hands now!!
There has been a case in the courts for the last 6 years nearly, where the Gold Coast City Council seized a dog as a Pit and put a destruction order on it. The owners then took it to court and fought it. They managed to get council to agree to let them send the dog to NSW where it has been in a kennel ever since.
They fought to prove that the dog was a pedigree AmStaff and council said if they can prove this the dog can return to QLD. They did this and also proved that the 22 point check list is hopeless.
NOW the stinking arseholes at the GCCC put in a submission in the closing statement which states that an AST and APBT are the same breed!!! Therefore the dog still cannot return to QLD!! They are prepared to can a whole breed just for the sake of their own arses!!
The judge ruled in favour of the GCCC yesterday so we are now waiting to hear what has to happen with all AST's in QLD.
There is going to be an appeal and we just have to hope we can overturn this. Dogs QLD are on board now so cross your fingers everyone

No I missed it but have been reading about a couple of cases over the last couple of yrs now. It seems the powers that be will not stop till they are another breed on the ban list unfortunately, cutting through any loophole and creating them in the mix. I am so sorry to hear of this latest BS. I don't know what you AST people are going to do, it is not fair.

    Cheers

Well Goerge Sofronidis from GTG has been running DNA testing on AST's for a while now. He has formed a signature for them and many other breeds. They then ran blind tests on any APBT they can find (of course they cant get any papered dogs here) and he says he does not find any AST in these Pit samples. He is prepared to stand up in court and testify this. SOOOO if we can prove that in AUSTRALIA with the closed AST gene pool we have here, that the two are now different we might be ok.
The thing that stuffs us up is the UKC doing dual registrations. BUT none of those dual registered dogs are recognised by the AKC,ANKC or FCI. So of course these are unable to be imported into the country so again not able to be injected into our gene pool.
Dogs QLD and the ANKC didnt want to know about it until the GTG lab spoke up about their DNA testing. Now they are onboard to help us fight it.
We are all shitting ourselves at the moment but we have to keep fighting it and just hope like hell we can come out the otherside. You never know, GCCC even said in court transcript that their 22 point check list and BSL altogether doesnt work so maybe we can use this to squash the whole bloody lot. Thats pie in the sky stuff but hopefully something good can come out of all this shit!!!

I read this at work the other day and saw it on the news..

Here is the link to the news website I read it from, it's had over 200 comments, so far.

    Couple's $500k dog fight down the drain | News.com.au

I feel sorry for the owners, the guy worked 98 hours a week to pay for court costs!!!

I just hope that they don't try to ban the Amstaff, as I'd hate to see other breeds like the Rottweiler, Doberman and possibly the German Shepherd added to the list just because of their size and the way their portrayed by the media. Most of the time the comments from the public are infavour of BSL, which disappoints me. I see the QLD premier sometimes when I get a hair cut ha I should have a word with her!

Yeah it just makes me angry when I read those comments. Dogs QLD are in talks with the state government today to see if they can come to a solution.
Surprise surprise, we have the RSPCA'S backing now, finally they are doing interviews and are anti BSL. Lets see what comes of today
Oh and thats a big YES if you see the state premier, have a big word in her ear for us

Ha I've ran into her a few times, so I'll ask what I can do and who to speak to I guess, i'm only 20 so I doubt I'll be taken seriously but i'll have a word with her.

It fires me up, because people that have never had contact with a certain breed naturally assume their dangerous and shouldn't exsist, or they hate animals in general.

I think the story is pretty sad, I don't blame him for spending $500,000 on the court cases - it's an insane amount of money but one can't judge as others spend it on cars or other things in life and i'd rather a loving dog then a lamborghini.

When people find out the out come, can someone post the link on this page, thanks. Will the court hearing just be about saving the amstaff from being banned or all breeds on the list...

Ben I think the immediate response is to save the AmStaff but in saying that you have Dogs QLD and also RSPCA reps trying to get the "deed not breed" out there. The meeting with Dogs QLD and the state government was this afternoon but are yet to hear the outcome of that. The appeal is set for 2 weeks.
Its really sad but at the moment all the AST breeders are bloody fighting amongst themselves, some saying lets just be done with the APBT to save the AST, this I find aboslutely bloody shocking!! At the end of the day, we wouldnt have the AST if it wasnt for the APBT!!
There are a group of us here in WA that are in the process of getting an Association together which its sole objective is to promote "responsible dog ownership" rather than just be outright anti- bsl. We have found that just going anti-bsl doesnt get you enough backing so we are trying to tackle it a different way. Of course one of our main objectives is to be a voice against BSL. We plan to put together education programs and things which we believe are going to be very successful.
