That is amazing , I agree they do not deserve to have dogs .
I do not understand why the handler could not even get the dog off her.
Sounds a bit fishy to me .
She had to shoot it herself.
Sounds like a set up to me .
This is one way to get your dog to out.
Alameda police dog shot after biting officer investigating burglary - Inside Bay Area
By the sounds of their history though, I do not think they deserve Dogs

Second police dog fatality there in 12 months... First one a police dog was left in a car and died of extreme heat. Who trains and maintains these handlers.. I would dearly like to know!
An absolute disgrace!!!! The dog shouldnt be out there working the streets if the damn handler cant call it off for a start! Poor bugger sounds like he was just doing his job and made a mistake, but was that mistake caused by the handler?
Then for the same department to leave a dog to die in a car, holy shit!
Good thing is they only have 2 other dogs in their unit so one can only hope the unit gets a massive over haul!
Not nice at all, bad situation all round.....Goes to show nothing is predictable as people would like to think...

This article raises the interesting topic once again of the "out" process.
In another thread somebody wrote it should be expected a dog out once commanded first go, but in reality outing strong highly dominant dogs is not always reliable no matter the training. Because each scenario people work in is different and each human will smell and act differently.
People need to remember they are dogs, not machines
Cheers

there's being over driven and taking a bit to let go and then there's having to kill a dog to get it off you. Who knows maybe the officer panicked and shot the dog .. but 3 times?! Holy hell
Poor dog 3 years of service then to be shot.
