    Working Dog Survey

This survey may interest some of you

Australia's first working dog survey is underway, with owners of all types of working dogs being quizzed on breeding, training and welfare issues.

Information on sheep dogs, police and guide dogs, and sporting dogs like greyhounds will be fed into the Federal Government's Animal Welfare Strategy.

Co-ordinator Nick Branson, from Sydney University, says the data gathered in the voluntary survey will identify issues like potential shortages of dogs, rather than be used to impose new welfare conditions.

"There's certainly no plan to use this information to ramp up the regulations relating to any of the different groups in this survey," he says.

The study is being conducted by Dr Nick Branson [Independent Veterinary Researcher] and Ms Mia Cobb [Guide Dogs Victoria] under the supervision of Associate Professor Paul McGreevy. It is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
