The problem is that at 7/8 months the pup is as we know still growing, exercise should mainly be free so that the pup can flop down when he/she’s had enough. The pup’s joints, bones etc are very much in a continual transitional state until approx.16/18 months therefore I’ve always tended NOT to overdo the exercise including jumping (especially coming down from heights, I lift my 8 month old out of the truck) until older.

I suppose as long as you’re aware that overdoing it can cause future problems, and take it easy, you shouldn't have a problem.

Agree with John's advice.
Generally it accepted that forced exercise should be avoided with dogs until about 12mo, little longer for giant breeds.
I tend towards playing 2 ball with these younger dogs, as it allows them to exercise to contentment, and if you are doing it correctly and leaving the dog wanting more at a peak then the natural drive development and attention span of the dog will limit the dog to an acceptable level of exercise.

If you teach him slowly, at a slow pace it would be okay, as already mentioned pup's do a great deal of growing at this age, so caution, like with all things.

Brads idea of the ball is what i do with the Rott's, but anyway we all do different things...
