    seting up ecollars on dogs

this is to go with the other thread i made up

i havnt got a E collar yet but still want to know more

i dont want a full on how to gide just a refrence of understanding so i can go back to my trainer and be able to have some input

with seting up the collar i under stand u have to find the working level for the dog befor u can go further as well as teach the dog that whats happening isnt evil

for my use it would be for bite work
when jnr goes into drive for bite work he can block out just about every thing
corrections he is selective with as well as selective deffness

but out of the bite work he is easy to control just needs a verbal correction and he is on his way

so with seting the e collar to suit jnrs bite work would he work of 2 lvls of stim low for training and a higher seting for bite work or would he work of the one stim for both

i hope i worded this well enough to understand
    Regards

    Nathan

The best advice I can give you is to talk to Steve Courtney in Sydney.

    www.k9force.net

He has written a manual on ecollars and does seminars on them. I have used him for my decoy work and his knowledge, theory and application is excellent. I did a 2-3 day ecollar course with him and he explains many different ways to use an ecollar including positive motivational.

He knows what he is talking about....and his manual was about $50 bucks.

He has specials sometimes on the ecollars.

He used to train working dogs but has slowed down due to injury. He now mainly does seminars and consultancy all over Australia.

Cant speak highly enough of him.....

    Hi Nath,

As you know i have just returned from having 3 weeks part time training with Chris at Sit Means Sit in Brisbane. I would recommend Chris and Sit Means Sit to anybody who wants to learn about e collar training.

The system Sit Means Sit uses is amazing in how well and quick the dogs pick it up......I say it is almost a language you and the dog can communicate with. I have previously purchased the above mentioned handbook as well as many other DVD's and information from the internet, but having the hands on experience and advice through Chris was the best and easiest way to learn how to use an e collar.

Nath, if you want I will lend you one of my collars for Jnr and put you on the right track. Not saying I am an expert, but I now at least have an understanding of the many advatages an e collar can offer. If you want more details I suggest talking to Chris at Sit Means Sit.

    Cheers

    Steve
