you start with using your own scent and put that in the bottle.
You take a sweaty T-shirt or stinky socks from yourself and put it, some hours, in distillated water.
Take them out of the water and put this “scent” water in a spraying bottle.
I myself start most of the time on a concrete surfaces but other hard surfaces, like roads, are good.
Then spray a line, 10meters long and 20cm wide. Always with the wind in the back, at the start.
Take the dog and encourage him to sniff at the start, if he does, CT, start again after one step in the right direction with his nose on the scent track, CT, and so on, just shape his behavior and after some trainings you will see that he gets the picture and loves doing it.
Then start making it more difficult, longer, angels and so on. Then start with using other people there scent. If this goes well you start using the sprayer less and less.
When I am at this point I start laying tracks without shoes on then go back to running shoes, boots……
If the dogs starts running into problems and he cannot coop with it, just take one step back, it means it goes to fast for him.
You will be amazed to see what a dog can do with his nose.

This was the first time with Antrax, 6 weeks old. You see I put some treats on the track because at this point he did not now the clicker but some weeks later I did not do this just using the clicker for shaping the behaviour.
I try to put some on from Ringo, my former MWD, he was asome on HST tracking, also his son Tuurke, is a expert on tracking.
You can let him take a smell at a hole in a fence or at a car seat and he starts the track then. It is awsome to watch.
