I know that the breeders in question did have links with the RAAF but no dogs ended up there. They also no longer breed them.
Hi all
From what I understand, the RAAF have been using these dogs for some time, I was told of it at least 4 years ago - sourced/imported by someone I think on the Sunshine Coast. I too questioned the info due to AQIS import regulations, however their regs state:
Hybrids: Any other domestic/non-domestic animal hybrids (e.g. Bengal cats or wolf crosses) are not eligible for import unless they are five (5) generations or more removed from their pure-bred non-domestic ancestors
I would certainly be interested in pics
Cheers

4 Years ago i was doing quite a bit of K9 Fire Ant Detection work at RAAF Base Amberley and was given a tour of the MWD facility. The Sargent who was showing me around took me to see his own MWD that apparently was a Timber Shepherd. I think the dog was about 8-9 years old at the time and he mentioned that they had a total of 3 at one stage however his was the last one that was operational. He really liked his dog!
silly reply didn't work first time......Please can somebody post a pic if they have it?
Cheers
Amy
The original article metioned it being a mixed breed and first few threads were talking about a Mal Shep and Timber Shepherd cross. I acknowlege that you will have a few good dogs out of any breeding. I have seen a golden retirver that would put some traditional working service breeds to shame. But I have not seen another.
In his Article that is linked in the first post Ross Allen said:
" I have more recently been breeding and developing a style of dog that has been successfully trialed in one of the Army Special Service units. They are proving to be superior in working ability to the working line GSD'S, Belgium Malinois and Dutch Shepherd's."
Against what yard stick. How many dutchies could he have seen to compare, how many Mal's . ...GSD's mabe he has seen enough.

I agree with you Vendo. Also if they are proving to be superior than these other breeds than you would think that the RAAF would have expanded their use of the breed. From what I'm hearing the RAAF are going all out with the Dutch Shepherd X and the Malinois X dogs originating from the KNPV bloodlines. The only mention the Timber Shepherd gets is on this forum and in Papua New Guinea.

Its simple to see a number of photos - search for Timber Shepherd Australia and follow the links to the photo page on the breeders website. There are a number of photos of the dogs working in PNG.
