    Hi Adam

I have no doubt it is already happening, if European working dog breeders feel that their dogs are not appreciated, and in fact the policies in this country strip hard earned titles from their dogs, why would they want to export dogs to Australia. This politically correct rubbish which seems to smother many areas of Australia’s progress (not just dogs) has got to a stage where we have become a joke to many countries. Certainly working dog breeders in this country will find it near impossible to inject new and progressive bloodlines into their breeding programs, which will basically make it un-worthwhile for a dedicated working dog breeder to continue.

    Quite pathetic really.

I've gone this route before and nothing materialised but I was down $100 which I donated to the fund, I'm not doing it again. If my memory serves me well, the name was the same only without the "national" bit.

John.. All those that did donate were offered their money back, less the paypal fee when the idea was abandoned due to lack of interest. You might have left the forum when the idea of the AWDA was abandoned. If you did not receive your refund, then do let me know. A message was placed in the forum that all those that donated to contact me with their payment details. The AWDA paypal account has long been closed. So please can you let me know your payment details.

To all, thank you to Paula for a great POV. I enjoyed it, and think it provided this thread with the most valuable input yet.
Adam, way to go to work fast!
Rob, I think you are right that the most pivotal breeders, such as yourself and the others you did/did not mention would hold a ton of pull in this debate...however only IF other breeds outside of the awesome Rottweiler got on board. I think Mal breeders would be very interested, as would TRUE WORKING Dobe, GSD, AmBull, and Dutch Shepherd breeders (both FCI and bloodline).
I dont think an NPO would work, purely because it would be subject to outside influence of membership...instead I would suggest a privately owned company with shareholders that had a vote, or a 'guidance committee' of highly qualified and credentialled members. This would insulate this body from spurious attacks from the likes of the ANKC, ill informed 'public interest groups' like Delta, APDT, etc, and also give us an educated voice to present to the public.
Also, without a decent budget, the organisation would find it difficult to attract AND KEEP quality governance and guidance on a corporate level.
I strongly believe that we would need a professional approach to the problem, with a letigious advantage and a corporate outlook in order to best serve the long term interests associated with our cause.

I am of the belief that the german shep. have an exemption they get to keep their titles they have already struck a deal with dogs victoria or ANKC.
I do not know if there is any truth to this.

Rob if the mail you have recieved is true it is actually great news for us all my friend!
In legal terms that is considered a PRECEDENT.
Another legal term that MAY be of relevance of here is PARODY (legal minds please weigh in here I may be off course).
If they can have it so can mals, if mals can so can rotts, if rotts and mals can so can dobes.
Let us all hope Rob that any arrogance and sense of entitlement on behalf of any breed in regards to a policy the ANKC endorses offers us all a significant legal advantage in a practical way.
    TOP post pal.

I wonder if what Rob says is correct and if Dogs Victoria/ANKC have indeed worked something out with the GSD people.....perhaps that's to go hand-in-hand with the exemption order granted to imported schutzhund trained GSD's as per the Domestic Animals Act?.....(see below for that reference).

Exemption Order for Imported Schutzhund trained dogs exempting imported schutzhund trained German Shepherds from section 10A(4)(a), section 40, and section 41(1) of the Domestic Animals Act - Imported Schutzhund trained German Shepherds Order 31-3-09 (PDF 300KB)

It could just be that because the government has allowed the GSD breed this exemption: that Dogs Vic or the ANKC are then unable to overwrite what is essentially already law and as such have allowed it....or as Rob put "struck a deal with them?"

This then brings up the point that Brad has made as being very relevant.....being that they've set a precedent which other breeds should now attempt to follow? Hmmmm!
