Thread: Rottweiler attack in Australia

Vague newspaper report, i guess that is a good thing,normally we get the over emotive responses about killing machines.


Responsible supervision and good breeding placed into correct homes is key.

Poor child, lets hope she heals nicely and lives her life not afraid of dogs after this unfortunate set of events.

Not enough info there to make a judgement on how or why this happened. But some human allowed this dog to be somewhere it should not have been, or some human allowed the little girl to be somewhere she should not have been. A dog that attacks a child needs to be disposed of, but is not a representative of its breed ,or working dogs in general . It is representative of someones poor breeding, training, judgement or all three.You cant legislate away or educate against idiots. We can only hope that through the spreading of valid information the public will realise people cause these things, not the dogs. Proper selection , training and management are needed, and for people to realise dogs are dogs and need control and guidance from someone who knows better, supposedly the human beings of our planet ?

At the end of the day dogs are still just animals and can not be trusted 100%. I would never leave a child with any dog no matter what breeding it is. Or how good with kids it is. You never know what might happen so why take the chance. I hope the little girl is ok.

I am waiting to hear more on this before I say too much - but as I know the owner and the place where it happened I do feel the need to say that the owner was not there at the time and she left strick instructions on care for the dogs. I know that she will be devastated by what has happened. She would never have allowed kids near her dogs unless they are supervised - especially while they are being fed and no way would that have happened had she been there. The people looking after the dogs while she is at a show knew what the instructions were and failed the owner and the dogs by ignoring her instructions..

Just what the Rottweilers do not need right now - this should never have happened and goes to show that no matter how hard you try and do the right thing if people will not listen to instructions then what hope do you have...

hello what laws and what about the courts, im not aware of this can you please explain in more depth for those that are not aware of whats happening and for my sake also or can anyone else add to this.

This is about some of it. There is more on the forum somewhere.

But a quick run down. Victoria has changed it's laws about training PP, Sch, IPO. You have to have a security licence to train a dog. 4 people continued to train and where charged by the police and have a court case on at the moment. They have trained for years, but they still broke the law. They are also trying to reverse the law so people don't get charged or just get your security licence. They are asking for donations to help with the fight called "the fight fund". I suggest that all put some money into this otherwise we all might lose the chance to train our dogs. It might go Aust wide yet.
With things like this happening, it wont go down good.

This is such bad news, it is so hard to trust anyone. Hope things go ok for them. It doesn't matter what lengths you go to, it's not the same as you being there. If you can keep us up dated, would like to know if the dog gets through it.

Ena, as I said above this should never have happened, instructions were ignored - child should never have been in the kennels - especially at feeding time.

The dog has already been pts.

Very avoidable and sad situation.
