    Re: Rottweiler attack in Australia

I was given permission to cross post this:

Just to fill you in on some details to avoid further speculation:

-The little girl was a relation of [****] cousin [***] who was looking after the place while [****] was in Perth WCRC

-[***] and this girls family were instructed in the past not to take the kids down to the kennels especially at feeding time

-The girl was holding one of the dogs food bowls while [***] was feeding another one (making the dog sit before food)

-The dog in question attempted to feed from the bowl that the girl was holding but she said no and turned away from the dog

-The dog lunged and went into prey drive.

-The dog in question has been put down to try to hose down the media hype

Very very sad situation why do parents have to be so damn irresponsible with their kids around dogs, especially after being asked not to have the kids in there in the first place.

Yep and once again a breed will be blamed! victoria is already the worst state in Aus for the working breeds.. This will only strengthen their cause to eventually wipe out all these working breeds.... The time bomb is ticking!

We really do need to get the AWDC up and running, when we can get the funds together!

    Re: Rottweiler attack in Australia

This is a terribly sad situation, and my thoughts go out to not only the child and her family, but the family of the Rotty as well. No matter how many times we lament incidents like this, they just keep on coming. Why? I dont want to turn this into waxing philosophical, but when will HUMANS take responsibilty for their actions and their impacts on this world? A child is attacked by a dog... who is "blamed"? The dog breed of course... no, no, we couldn't possibly blame a human for allowing circumstances to occur that made the event possible! No, instead we legislate against dogs, dog breeds, dog sports, and, in a way, dog people. We allow babies to have babies (and pay them a baby bonus to boot) but we dont legislate or even mandate sensible, responsible behaviour. "Dog people" are forced to train their animals in a subversive culture and are prosectuted for their efforts to ensure their dogs are controlled... does society prefer untrained, potentially uncontrollable animals? It seems so.... for after all, that allows prejudice against breeds and species!

Until our decision making humans stop thinking themselves above reproach for stupidity, we will continue to have tragic events such as this and humans will continue to punish the smallest minority as a blanket method to "make society safer". Will dog attacks stop if we ban working dogs? Of course not... then we just move on to another class.

(and what of the small, white, cute maltese that attacks me each time I walk down the street? He's small. He's cute. He's not black and tan. He's not a problem).

Ok... that's my vent. I'm sorry to anyone I've accidentally insulted!
