The ones I have met have been funny monkey like little dogs lol. Some can be a bit delicate looking so check out the breeder's dogs. I think they need either stripping or clipping as they are a wire coated breed. Not sure what they are like for training - I would rate the Boston or Mini Schnauzer better for training on what I've seen though.

They are a rare brachiocephalic breed that are bred for companionship rather than actual temperament requirements. I would suggest a french bulldog as a good alternative, Margaret Metcalfe breeds them apparently. They are dumb as dogcrap, scruffy, and also slow to learn - I used to date a girl that owned one. They are a terrible dog, with some lovely attributes.
Just get involved in some very early training to shape behaviour, and teach the dog to learn how to learn.

Depends what they want it for if just a pet there are probably cheaper alternatives in the same size temperament bracket.i would prefer a boston and I am waitng for my kids to get bigger til i get one but they can be a bit much depending on the individual also.I agree with Brad a french bulldog is probably sa better alternative.
