I'm with Mark, and Steve, and Artur... the people who have the dog really need to seriously consider what their future goals are for the dog. If they really want a PP dog, then this one is probably not going to suit them and the work may never, ever suit him. In that case, rehoming is very important, there may be homes where a companion is wanted and this dog has the potential to be a loving companion with the aforementioned time!! As I said in my original post, at least 5 dogs would have had the green dream except they came to me. And 5 different, diverse but nonetheless fabulous dogs would not have had their amazing impact on my life. I, too, cringe at how little I knew then, and still cringe at how much I still need to learn now

It's shameful what's happened, and, as dog enthusiasts, and a group of folks with an amazing combined knowledge, my question is: how can we educate people and provide assistance to those looking for working dogs in selecting appropriately for their needs?

I know I keep saying this.. But in my opinion a National body, like we are considering here. Where standards and ethics can be maintained. The education of those seeking these types of dogs. Then advertise, advertise..... A AWDC website to educate not only the public but also our governments.

Hopefully as this site grows, and our ranking in search engines improves, many seeking information will find their way here, educate themselves and ask questions. As you so rightly say, this site and as a growing group, we offer a wealth of knowledge.

For everyones info, this site is currently seeing over 20,000 page views a month, with over 5,000 visitors a month! And increasing fast. So keep the info coming.. We can do our bit here!!

How can people be selling "trained" PP dogs at 5 months of age!!!!!...WTF!!!........my guess is they have broken the dogs confidance by pushing him too far, way to young!! This is wrong and can ruin a very good dog even with the best genetics for protection work.

    Agree.

Sad situation to be in, poor puppy, nothing but time and training, and a good set of brains can help this puppy.Though some dogs don't recover and that is when the green dream is more then appropriate, I personally would not pts at 5 months. This puppy needs to form a bond with a handler and have it's trust put back by it's handler, only then will it be good to reintroduce this pup back into society.

    Re: oh the fear

Wow some great responses, I've been out of action with a computer crash for a few days, they're good when they work but bring out emotions you didnt think you had when they dont.
Over the last few days with the dog we have just been walking, socializing and generally getting out into the world, he has shown very small but positive improvements, so yes it is gunna be all about time.
The changes small as they have been, have been enough for the owners to see how the dog responds to confident and positive actions.
The owners are guilty of giving the dog affection at the wrong times and reassuring this behavior, but are passionate about doing what is needed to rehabilited their dog.
As for PP training this dog they do understand it wont happen, and all they want is normal behavior from him. They do have another dog that has normal behavior exept for a small obsession for the ball, so it is a good enviroment for this GS pup if we change a few actions.
They do relise they have been shafted on buying this dog but have grown fond of him and just want to move forward with his rehabilitation.
With the training centre involved its not up to me to name them for i only have a he said she said point of view, but as for the owners thier opinion is they have A LONG MEMORY AND A BIG BLOODY MOUTH.
So thanks for all the great responses and we will keep moving forward with him.
And no green dream needed Vendo.
Great to hear about the pups.
Maybe you should cross em with a mal, food for thought. hmmm.
