How do I get my dog to heal, she drops back

Hi to all,

I have been working on this problem for ages and she is winning. (bloo&y dog)lol

Cherokee is good with most things but when she heals she falls behind me, she still follows but from behind. I have tried food, working her up, pulling her and it will last a short while and she drops back again. It is like it all bores her.

What I have been reading on the E-Collars sounds like that is what I need, but I'd like to try all I can first.

She has found obediance boring due to they are slow and have little imagination and like to talk about their dogs......

Agility she enjoys but still has no speed, she enjoys doing things.

Now I bought a sleeve, I put it on and she flew across the room and latched onto it before I knew it, I know what is in her blood, lol

My problem is if I can sort out the small things how can I take her to do what she wants.

I am open to suggestions all will try it all if I have to.

Thank you all

A few ideas . . .

What are you using for motivation? If she likes tug, are you using that as the reward?

Have you taught her what heel position is? Sounds silly, but does she really understand where you want her to be? If you don't give any signals and just say heel, will she go to the right spot? If not, maybe best to try teaching that first.

One thing I have found to help with my guy is to release to the reward when he is heeling well, in position and happy. So I put toy or food on ground, get his attention and when I get a couple of really good attentive steps I release to his reward.

Hi Kavik,

Food will only work for so long same as toys. She has been doing obediance since she was 3 months, so I believe she knows what heal is.
When on the lead I can pull her up, but we are trying to go to off lead and she will lag. Sometimes I think she is tired or bored with it. Off lead we have no problem with controlling her, can even hand signal some commands. She just wont walk at my side, if I run she will but I can only do that for so long.

I have the same problem with Diesel, he is lazy and lags. So I try to mix it up and make it exciting. One thing I know I have to watch is my shoulders, if I turn my shoulders into him too much he will lag.

He didn't heel well today, he doesn't like hot humid weather, so I tried going back to shaping it with a clicker, and throwing the food away from me after I clicked, and I soon got him enthusiastically finding heel position again and heeling a bit before I clicked.

I use toys and food, try to mix it up to keep him interested. Of course he works well for his dinner, I split it into 4 and make him work for it, heeling or recalls and then release to his food.
