    Wooden Dumbells

Are there any that are made in Australia? Not necessarily looking for any, but the poster of the thread in a forum 'somewhere else' advertising Pro K9 Supplies mentioned that articles are more expensive due to dollar rate differences, GST and also that things such as wooden dumbells have to be treated to gain entry into the Country.

ETA: I don't agree that the exchange rates nor GST, even factored together should make some of the price differences as much as they are. Exchange rates with the USA are pretty good at the moment.

I'll follow this through with Customs when I get a chance, but I got a bit concerned about how the dumbells are treated and with what. Concern being, of course, that the purpose of these items are for the dog to take it into its mouth ..... so I began to wonder on the chemical used to treat them and what affect they could have on the dog, short or long term.

I would think that if Australia supplies "Australian grown and made" wood into which these dumbells are made, that would be a better alternative regardless?

Hence my question as to whether Australia produces these at all?

Thanks Bigbite. Don't need one for myself at this stage, but will let you know in the event that changes .

Spoke to someone in Quarantine and they told me the treatment wooden items undergo when coming into the Country lasts for a very short time (only long enough to kill the bugs that might exist in the wood). The chemical then dissipates and is non-effective.

Well, as far as we know that is. Apparantly fruit undergoes similar treatment.

I'm somewhat suspicious of it and what we are allowed to know, though (no aspertions upon the person who told me this).

Regardless - I think it is better to buy our own products whenever and wherever possible.

I have had good dealings with Pro K9 Supplys in Sydney, it is all quality equipment and alot in stock. I got dumbells sent from overseas and they broke into pieces after a few weeks use. The dumbells I got from pro k9 have lasted months without any problems.
