    Hello everyone!

    Hi there

My name is Lia and I have a working line non registered GSD named Diesel, a WKC registered Kelpie named Kaos and a Kelpie X Zoe. I currently compete in agility with Kaos and am training Diesel for competition obedience. Unfortunately Diesel seems to be rather accident prone, between breaking a leg as a pup, having allergies and various other things. I have done a little herding with Kaos who has shown great potential and who is a strong dog on sheep, but I am a real newb in that discipline!

I am interested in Schutzhund and am excited about going to the nationals this weekend at Castle Hill Showground.

My next dog is likely to be a Kelpie, Malinois or GSD, depending on the discipline I decide I want to pursue with it.

Can you guys tell me more about this Ausk9prosport? I haven't heard of it before. Are competitions already being held or is it still in development?

Not that my dopey sooky fella is up for even Sch but I like to learn about it all.

    Re: Hello everyone!

    this is the short vers
k9 pro sport is for protection and security trained dogs
so you have some fun with doing scenarios that are close to life like as we can make them like you could be walking in the park and some guy tries to mug you
then its a test to see if your dog can protect you
as well as a little obd to show how much control you have over the dog
    Regards

    Welcome Lia ,
glad you have joined, we do need a cage rattling l think, there is a need for this board but folks get busy and it can go quiet.
New blood is always a help.
AK9PS is basically for the personal and working dog, meant to produce and test for a stable working dog, without the need for such preciseness and tracking as used in Sch. Early days yet , and in an almost hostile environment right now it is slowly , slowly to attract the right people and produce an atmosphere that suits Australian conditions
    welcome Tony

    Re: Hello everyone!

So there is an obedience and protection component?

I see that there is a courage test, call off and civil agitation component.

Is it restricted to certain breeds? Do you have to be working the dog in security etc?

Is it anything like American Street Ring? Had a look at that for interest

I hope you dont mind me answering TonyMcCallum and Cramet.

Yes there is obedience and protection.

There are no breed restrictions, K9 Prosports is about judging a dogs working ability not his pedigree. You do not need to be working the dog in the security industry.

It is abit like American Street Ring but K9 Prosports has been around longer AFAIK.

    Re: Hello everyone!

    Hi vomblaksta

Diesel just seems to always be at the vet . . . broke his leg as a pup, has ongoing allergies, had an ear chomped by another dog, then an aural haematoma in the same ear a year later - a very expensive dog! In a way its not surprising we haven't gotten around to trialling in obedience!

If there is a K9 pro sports event in Sydney I may come for a look - Diesel would not be suitable, way too soft and sooky and not enough drive. Am thinking about SchH with the next one, need to get a better handle on drive training first.
