I'm not too sure about decking Nathan... Timber is very porous., and will probably end up smelling with young pups toileting, etc. Unless you can get a good sealer..but then you must becarful about how toxic it is... Also chewing, we all know pups love to chew on timber

    Hi Nath,
I use blue metal quarter minus no dust , which is only about 5 or 6 mm, it is alot finer than crush rocks it has good drainage and is alot easier on the dogs paws, is also alot easier picking up the dogs droppings.

    regards

    Re: building a new run

To be honest Nath, timber would be the last thing I would use with dogs. It degrades in the weather, the termites get to it, and it splinters! If you seal it, like Mark said, is it toxic? With all the urine that is going to get into it, I would imagine it is going to ruin it fairly quickly. I know horse urine stuffs it real quick, know this from timber float flooring.
I personally would go with the crushed rock

I have a concrete floor and put rubber matting designed for horses (about an inch thick) over it. its discontinued now but I saw last week they have a similar product for dairy industry. Slightly thinner but you can put it directly over crushed rock. Its easy to clean and designed for cattle so it should be very durable and stop digging.

Don't use timber. It is hard to clean and retains the smell of urine and gets scratched up easily.I used timber once with a litter and it was a big mistake!

A customer of mine has that fake terf stuff pulled tight so the dogs cant dig it up etc. It seemed easy enough to clean and hose off and easily replace when worn and it certainly did not retain any smell. I thaught about doing it my self what do you guys think?????????
