A GSD with wonky elbows is as bad as one with HD.
UAP is elbow displasia and only one thing for it.If the dog is only 5 months old and already trying to avoid situations becuase it may be in pain it is not a good sign and will most likely worsen. For the sake of tha naimal and so it doesnt suffer anymore than it has to I think it is best to be PTS.I would speak to the breeder again and reitirate it to her.If she has already offered you a replacement thats not a problem only if its from the same dogs. Some people are just very attached to their dogs and their heart rules their mind.I lost one of mine this week after trying to operate on him but I let him go becuase it was best for him and very hard to do becuase I loved him but sometimes you have to do wwhat is best for the dog.

yes the breeder has asked for the report of which i am emailing tonight, i am also picking up the x-rays to send to her
I also agree shane with your post , it is very hard for all parties, but in the end i believe the right thing for the dog is the most important part, and yes the replacement offered one was a breeding i didnt want one from due to the closeness of the inbreeding, she understood this totally, the other is from the most recent litter same mother unrelated father or my money back in full for the purchase price of the dog, pretty fair all round and again i must stress this there has never been any question on refunding/replacing its the other issues

Put the dog down, totally agree with Roberts post, how are his siblings coming along? i would be very careful with the breeding and not repeat one like it again.

Look in saying all that ,
if it is the only pup in the litter with this problem, and it has not happened before, it can just be bad luck , these things do happen .
But that pup has to be put down,
So she wants to give you another ,but she also wants you to keep this pup alive for what reason am i reading this right?

at this point the litter mates thankfully seem ok of course i am sure the owners will be having heart palpatations now until 12 months but all seem ok, as for the lines well i know of some here related to my dog with hips/elbow issues so...............
and yes robert she has offered me a replacement or money back one i liked the sound of the actual pup but to close a breeding for me personally , and the second from the same mother different sire, i was going to do this and was quiet excited but i think i may end up to stressed over the next 12 months will i get the same problem again, not that i am saying i would but just that there is alwasy the possibility, this was pointed out to me by an orthopedic surgeon, so will take a refund, and there is no problem there.
As to your final question i cant answer that, i guess in some people's case there heart rules their brain, and naturally it is not an easy decision to make to put such a young dog down, but really it is me he has lived with all bar the first 8 weeks, it is me that has to watch him limp around, watching the other dogs through the wire because he can go and play with them to be honest it breaks my heart to watch him,

yeah you are right Robert i spoke to the vet today and he thinks the operation will be a success but only as a pet, and who will take on a dog that is operated on?? i am torn between doing the right thing by the dog and the right thing by the breeder, would be much easier (not that it is an easy decision) if he was my breeding i would have put him down a month ago

    Yes,
the surgery may be a success, but go back and ask the vet how many more surgeries the dog will need in the next few years. He has not told you that.
It is to young to have those issues.
