Hi Amy,
What a great thing to put on the site. I went through hot spots with my bitch. I believe it was to do wth meat ants. These ants come after you and their bite makes you ichy for days, our yard was full of them. Ant dusk has to be used regular to keep them at bay. I tried a couple of things but what I found was (Herbal creams) Comfrey was affective from the moment it was put on. When applied my dog stopped iching instantly and the next day it would be a bald spot but no scab. As if the skin healed over night. She stopped iching it and the hair grew back. Ususally it would only take one application but a second might be required if the dog starts iching it again. I found no need to do anything else, not trimming the fur, not rince the dog with anything.
A friend I once new used to blend comfrey leaves and put it in a bath of water for a friends shepherds for their mange. It worked very well, that's what gave me the idea to use it. Found it was good for our iches too. Hope this is helpful to anyone who might need it. You can get it from health food stores.
