I know people who have imported Shepherds that have spent over $10,000 to $20,000 for good dogs. It is not a cheap process however if you want quality its well worth it. Be wary however as there is quite a lot of con artist overseas who will rip you off easily.

I think there are some good dogs here but could be bred more wisely perhaps?. Many breeders seem to work within their own little cirlces and don't really know what's out there and don't try very hard in some cases to find out?

I don't think the factor of importance is what breeder you get your pup from, the importance I think is making sure the parents and ancestory of the litter is likely to produce the traits you are looking for. There are people breeding highly stable working line GSD's to fit well into pet homes which may suit some, then you have others breeding high level protection drives and everything in between. I think honesty is important to explain to the breeder exactly what you are looking for and don'r be afraid to ask the breeder to demonstrate particular traits in the parents to make a more informed decision if the litter is the right one for your requirements. A good breeder IMHO should be accomodating to your needs and be willing and able to answer your questions what ever they may be.
Cheers

At least we agree on something Neville lol
"Take this trouble for me: Make sure my shepherd dog remains a working dog, for I have struggled all my life long for that aim"

Recently we have just purchased our new german shepherd puppy a bitch from Thomas Lapp. We thought long and hard about what it is we wanted and chose to look at the BIG picture and the future plans we hold for our kennels and what would fit best.
Why Thomas simple the runs are on the board he is a great trainer, produces excellent dogs and have been lucky enough to meet a few of the ones he has previously bred.
Thomas Lapp has competed in the BSP 3 times placed 9th 2003 and V protection scores all years. With his dog Falk scored a 99 and won the 2004 protection. 2008 WUSV (World Championships) Falk's son Falko places 5th also he was 2007 Bundesseiger and 2008 BSP 5th place.
Id say his performance above is enough to suggest any litters with the right pedigrees to fit with dogs we already own is a good reason to purchase a pup from him
