Ive seen this clip before.
As you mention that this could be a way of sorting some dominance issues out. Can you provide a link where you see this type of handling being done correctly?
I found it distressing to watch also.
The dog appears to have no idea what is being asked of it. Im unable to understand, and have considerable more language skills than the dog does. Neither can i hear much sense coming from the instructor.???

The alpha roll is such an old training technique and one I refuse to use as it has no real positive outcome for dog and handler.
It is very clear in that video that no one there has a clue in what they are doing.
I feel very sad for that dog!
