I was just reading the socialisation thread and Amy mentioned that she wants a good dog to be able to work and be able to live inside as a pet at the same time (or something to that effect).
So... I am curious as to how many people allow their dogs "inside time" and how many keep the dogs in a run almost all the time.
Back in QLD Montu was 100% in the run or the yard, inside only when transporting him to the car.
Here he is in the yard (not a run) and comes inside randomly, but not for long as he is a pita and puts fur everywhere :P
with my rotty jnr he lives in his run and on a job sleeps in a crate in the car
with my pup he will be both inside and in a run i want him to be able to interact with the family but be able to go in the run for what ever reason and how ever long is needed

The male lives as both a run dog and outdoors during the night. The bitch is crated or outdoors, but all get about 30-60 min's or thereabouts house time only one at a time. No set routine they just assimilate into life.
Pup lives crated, free, and in a run. None are unsupervised ever indoors though.When two of them accidently locked themselves in the shed this is what they did within 5 minutes to my couch and hose.

Our younger male only now and then but the older male is inside a fair bit and often sleeps inside we also allow him free run of the house when we are out.He has never destroyed anything ....YET lol.
We dont have runs here, so the dogs have the full property during the day. Then at night Kaiser is crated, and Zoltan is in the laundry. But then I wouldn't class my dogs as 'working' they are purely pets.

Inside: Throughout the day when its a pup till it's about 3 months old.....and only really allowed on the tiled floors for the purpose of playing retrieve games with a ball to get it used to running and sliding about on slippery floors. Also allowed to sleep inside in crate for the 1st few weeks of coming home.
Outside: When older than 3 months. In the kennel/run area. Never left with full run of yard if someone is not home.

I would like to say we keep our dogs outside but we dont....
I find they bond better when a true member of his\her human pack.....
Which in turn makes them a better working dog,

Gotta love naughty dogs hey Rob. I think if another thread was started called post pics of your destructive working dogs it might put a few off wanting them! lol

Thanks guys.
Montu is only in supervised as well and he still manages to cause some occasionally damage.
When I got him I was under the impression that very few working dog owners let the dogs inside. I was obviously wrong. But meh, whatever works, hey!
