No you will just have to settle for the fact your pup will have a tail.lol.
it still happens here,there is a vert here in WA will still do it and I guess they get away with it under the auspices of medical reasons.

As far as owners not getting caught,some people still do it themselves.Not every vet agrees with the ban and is going to dob you in.They have to catch them with the pups.Once a dog is grown how are they going to prove who did it.I have heard people say in Vic they will seize the dog if it has a docked tail.I find it hard to beleive but I am not in that state.
Same vet that will dock tails here will still crop ears as well.It is not totally illegal in this state and he will still do it but he charges a lot for it.

The concept is NOT for Prophylactic reasons, but THERAPEUTIC is allowed.

Im not in a position to comment on whether it happens or not, all the working dobe puppies I see and work with have their tails still.

Docking is not rocket science and with no anaesthetic required when done at 2 days old, coupled with the fact it is a simple process, I would love to bet someone somewhere in Australia is putting docked puppies out.

This is bound to be the case Amy, however irresponsible and emotively driven legislation tends to have the effect of driving things underground...like APBT breeding, and other banned breeds.

As far as I am aware, the only State it is still legal to dock tails is in WA.

There was a loophole in the legislation wording that made it legal to do in WA. Recently the legislation has been reworded to eliminate this loophole.
Hence it is now illegal in WA.

Apparently it was ammended 3 months ago.It can still be done but they have tightened it right up.

Personally i love a good tail set in my breed, however if docking was still allowable of course i would be doing it with future litters, i already do my own dew claws should they crop up, and i have heard that is to be outlawed too. I myself have no issues with those docking even to this day...Naughty naughty......lol

Thtas right Brad.It is far less traumatic to band a pup at 2-5 days old than it is to undergo surgery at 6 - 8 weeks.Once upon a time when i had a Rottweiller I bred a litter and had their tails docked by a vet.I ended up losing a couple from shock and loss of blood.Even if it were legal I would not subject a puppy to that form of tail docking.
It is much easier to band them yourself but I would never endorse something like that as that would be illegal.lol
