In my opnion this selling of high drive working breeds is getting way out of hand.. I went to a home last week.. These inexperienced dog owners purchased a sister and brother papered Mals from a breeder here in SA (I will not name him). They told the breeder they wanted a dog that would protect/guard their property and business. They purchased a sister and brother pup. These 2 dogs ended up mating due the the owners not having the bitch or male desexed. The bitch had 7 pups... 5 were put to sleep as they were physically deformed. The other 2 (a male and female) were kept. The male pup was sold, but the person returned it due to aggression issues. The owners then got the SA Police out.. The Dog Handler couldn't get anywhere near the male due to being overly aggressive. They then took it out to the RAAF.. they had the male muzzled. The RAAF Doggy could not get within 4 or 5 metres without this male turning into a raving lunetic. The Doggy took the muzzeled dog away from the owners..and all it wanted to do was continually come up the lead at him... Could not get the dog settled. RAAF knocked it back.. Hence calling me out... I told them straight out.. put the male and female pups (12 months old) to sleep. They also wanted homes for the other 2 adult mals.. As they couldn't trust them either...... Both the husbnd and wife had been bitten by these adult dogs... Also they had put their little foxy into hospital twice.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brad, I have been exposed to some Mal's that are hard to read, they are not like GSD's who wind up slower to reactivity. I don't know if it's a genetic thing from breeding or a training issue, but they can look perfectly fine and happy then switch suddenly into aggression, by the time you notice the switch it's too late and the damage is done. Inexperience with dogs highly volitile like this would be a major handful unless you had them kenneled and out of harms way?

Mark that is just insane, i can't believe somoene would sell a working dog to an inexperianced dog owner, and why don't these owners contact the breeder he should be more than willing to take the dogs back, if hes a responsible breeder??

I hear what your saying ann-marie and i have to admit i have limited experience with mals but the dogs mauled there dog twice and bit them multiple times wouldnt that be enough to ring bells a little earlier then that.

So sounds like Mark was right they did need PTS no one should put up with that shit. And yeah kennels and enclosures would have helped im sure.

I should have added more to that original post.... I want to say firstly.. these are well meaning people.. Just inexperiemced with working breeds of this nature. Sure they should have been more careful in regards to not letting the brother and sister mate, and should have done more research into the breed. However I am more angry at the breeder for selling these types of dogs to very inexperienced dog people. These people had no idea what they were getting themselves into. They just wanted good guard dogs for their home property. I feel this breeder acted very irresponsibly in not vetting these people as to their experience with high drive working breeds and knowledge on training and raising such dogs. He should also have not sold them a brother and sister pup.

The selling of these types of dogs to the general public is getting beyond a joke.. and it will not be long before someone is actually killed by these breeds!!!!
