Then you should be able to answer your own question... if for 22 years that particular country doesn't exist, people bred these dogs, on average lets say a generation is 3 years that is 7 generations, the extended pedigree most of the time goes for 5.

So are there lines of DDR dogs, sure are, what % is there in a particular dog is a different question. East Germany was a country in size a lot smaller then NSW, I dont really belive that no breeder mixed them up with something else, Czech, Polish, Russian, French etc dogs. Or are there breeders out there (in Australia) that only used dogs born in the former East Germany and only bred those dogs for the last 22 years? If there are WOW I say!!

My dogs have Prinz Von Norden Stamm and Kalina Von Norden Stamm on both sides of a pedigree, more then once.
Should I say that I have this particular line? These were VERY famous dogs in their times, both extensively show and sch titled.
Id be thrilled if I could say I have this line of dogs, reality is that I dont, even that in one of my girls Prinz appears not that far away in generations.

We hear on this site that someone miss advertises the dogs as they have one particular dog in the second or third generation.
So where is the line drawn? at what generation?

I doubt you will find any full DDR line GSD's in Australia. Globally, most DDR lines were improved with Czech bloodlines in the mix, but the full DDR ancestory is usually from the 5th generation in the supposed DDR lines of today.

    Cheers
    Nev

[=Michael Rolfe;16625]Hazko the thing is you are asking for some info about what would make a good home guard/pp dog. I would have to agree and say that for the role and task you need it to do I would look at a rottie, dobe or a GSD.
I would never trust a X breed around my family and I have heard to many bad stories about bulldog/pitbull breeds to ever own one, let alone let one near the ones I love.
You need a safe stable dog that has been properly tested.
PM one of the many breeders(Rob, Laurie or others) on the site and they can help you out, If not I am sure they would be more then happy to talk to you over the phone to better gauge what exactly you require as this topic seems to be going a little all over the place.

I know this thread has already served its purpose but just wanted to ad.Opinions are fine and Im not rying to change yours as mine is different.Stability is always of the utmost importance when your talking about a family dog.I have owned many x breeds and bull breeds, bulldogs, pitbulls, bandogs and other purebreds and have no problem with letting them around my family. It comes down to who is breeding them and what they are breeding them for and what the temperaments of the dogs they were bred from are.An unstable dog is just that x bred or pure bred.Unfortunately most crosses in this country are just random crosses bred by people with 2 dogs and thats why you go with whats tried and tested but it doesnt mean there arent other alternatives out there.
For every bad story you have heard about bulldogs/pitbulls there are a hundred good ones unfortunately they dont make the news becuase no one wants to know. One of the big problems these days is everyone with 2 doigs wants to be a breeder and on sell pups to people that shouldnt own a dog and sugar coat what they tell people in order to do so.Not every bulldog/pitbull is huggable soft toy like animal that wants to lounge around. Some are as hard as they come and not for novices and in the wrong hands bad things happen. Not the dogs fault.Owners fault and breeders fault for selling dogs to the wrong people.Thats a problem with all working dogs not just bull breeds.Anyhow nuff said.

I agree, some of the best dogs for my situation at the time were Bull breed/cross....Too many people breeding dogs period, in my humble opinion across all of the groups. Rottweiler, that doesn't sound like the breed for you hazko, if you need to be "sold" on one...They are not ideal for every situation, and that is fact.

Many forget... 99% of all pedigree dogs were originally bred as x-breeds Thats why DOL makes me laugh when they call themselves a "purebreed" forum. There arn't that many domesticated "purebreed" dogs in the world.
