Tony at the moment I will be looking at the US but later also Europe but they may not be as viable for some.
Hi Ena I thought you might that is why I thought I would start a new thread instead of hijacking yours.
Hopefully there will be others doen the track and I am sure there will.

I am also looking into doing this later in the year from the US, so keep me posted. Have you talked to Gene Movers here in Victoria? They ship semen all around the world and can have tanks to share with various other species such as sheep, cattle, goat, etc. They are a good company and make the whole job very easy.

I've done this a few times now and its not that easy. Qurantine put you through a few hoops but nothing that is to hard. The problem is more for the seller than the buyer as there is a lot of paperwork. Stick with it as it is much cheaper than buying a stud dog.

    Re: Importing Semen

I will post here in advance but is my understanding that you can have the semen held at the storage facility and wait until there is 3 people to sahre the container and have it sent. This is what Rick Ferguson at Monash University told me anyhow. They can do it for you but dont think it sthat hard.

I have spoken to the owner of Gene Movers before Steve but it was over another matter to do with a dodgy person that was doing some dodgy things. The owner of Gene Movers iinformed AQIS and this person became the subject of a police investigation but that is another matter not for this board.
It depends on their charges but It has been my experience that sometimes it is just as easy and cheapoer to organise things yourself. Why pay someone to do something you can do.If it is easier and cost efficient then its worth it.I would consult them just to see what they charge.

Dennis who did you use to implant the semen and where did you get it stored?Did you use Applecross?Or did you send a bitch interstate?I have heard plenty of goos stories fom Applecross but you dont hear about the failures.I think Metcalfe is a good salesman but my own personal experience with them was less than satisfactory.I tried to do a live AI and didnt happen.Last thing I would want to do is pay good money for semen only to have a vet stuff it.I understand its probably a little easier and clinical for frozen but better results with fresh.

    Re: Importing Semen

Depends on where the semen is coming from but I contacted Cryo Genes in Victoria for my importation as they regularly bring in tanks from the US for multiple dogs of different breeds. They can handle/assist/guide you with some of the quarantine mumbo jumbo that is required. Firstly you should have a look on the AQIS site as this will outline the required quarantine protocol for each country. The US is a right pain in the backside...hope this helps

    Re: Importing Semen

Hi all. Well I just thought I would let you all know I have semen coming in from the US in the June shipment. It is coming from Dr Pew in Utah. Will travel with frozen puppies in Sydney.
If anyone is interested in bringing any in with the group shipment
