    Thanks, Vendo.

I see that you are a specialist in security dogs with a particular interest in Dutch Shepherds. Perhaps we could discuss them on a thread somewhere.

I have a couple of thoughts. One is that a GSD has a longer, heavy coat and that sounds really unsuitable in the hot, Australian climate. The second is that GSDs are a bigger. Do you think Dutchies are a good-sized dog?

    Regards
    Patrick

Patrick I will start a thread, but I am also bias, from my experience and my needs, I think dutchies are an ideal size dog.

A lot of people think you need a dog that is 50kg 60kg or even higher. Personally IO like my dogs at ideal weight - even slightly under weight.
..... Better start a new thread or else I will be giving myself a warning.

    Take two..
I try to get my dogs very slim for summer though, this helps a lot. However I think you will find most government agencies now look at dogs that are about 28 to 40 kg most.

In my experience the Dutchies last beter in the heat in QLD than most other breeds. GSD's do not do too bad but the dutchies are completely different.

They seem never to tire. The coat I think has a lot to do with it as it is a rougher coat than a GSD. I do not know if it is a trait of the lines we have or the standard but so far every pup has been the same.
