Dutchies well... What can i say. I have been lucky to have worked and trained with the CK9 SAS blokes and their Dutch Shepherds. Over the last few years i have seen and worked several breeds and to this day have not seen anything close to the intensity of these dogs. The quality and control they are getting from this breed is awesome and truely worth a look.
They will be a credit to the industry.

could not have put it better......not just for this breed but any animal, I am so tired of breeder's hype. Some dogs are what they say, others are not, but in all cases they may not be for you. Find a type that suits your purpose and you will be happy with what you have

Well its the fact. My idea of a hard dog is different to alot of other peoples. I am looking for the dog that has too much of everything. I want a dog who can take strong corrections without dropping drive. If one of my dogs stands up to me I quietly admire them, while teaching them not to.
This means however that my dog is going to take longer to train than some other dogs. It means that im going to have to spend more time thinking about how to get into his head. It means that he isnt going to be a happy waggy tail, happy to please dog.
Trainablity is very important and while I dont mind a dog that thinks about himself, others dont like this and wouldnt own one.
This is going to get very important soon as the flood gates open with the Malinois in this country. We have Bens dogs, we have Amanda Russells, we have Dannys and we have the Kollenbergs. All these dogs are very different and people will need to work out what they want. I can see people biting off more than they can chew with some of Bens dogs for instance, and this isnt good for the owner, the dog or Ben.
I shake my head when I see people post on forums "Hey, I just bought this dog. What does anyone know about the pedigree or the bloodlines?"
These are the sort of questions one does their homework on before they actually buy the dog.
    End rant....

    Thanks for that informative post.

I am one that likes the tail wagging eager to please dogs

What are some of the differences between the Malinois lines you have mentioned? I have only met some of Amanda's dogs and one of the Kollenberg's dogs.

Those sorts of discussions get the fanboys hopping mad on this board. Proberbly not worth the effort.

    Hi All

Yes I agree Chris some people get very upset if you like or reccommend something different to what they are breeding or own and people make comments like "but you havent seen my dogs or worked my dogs" and thats a fair point, but people are entitled to there opinion and people should able to reccommend breeders without the backlash from other breeders.
The other thing is what I think is a good dog you may not, so it is best to do your research, Not every Dutchie is the same and not every malinois is the same So do you research.
The funny thing is alot of those who make such comments often havent been and seen anyone elses stock either to me it sounds hypocrytical. But yes Chris probably best left to private discussions.

    Regards Ben

Fair enough but a bugger as I know what I want, but not sure who breeds that sort of dog, and if I decide to get a Malinois would want to get the right one.

This gives me the Irrites! Very foolish to first buy the lessons if you have not ridden that horse....

I also prefer a dog who will not crumble,i like a high threshold dog to corrections,(very self assured) if given, and a dog with thickness of nerve to remain clear headed and strong in all situations.Mid prey and aggression mid.I think high prey depends on whether the dog has the right nerve for it.So, high for some dogs. Dominance is always good to naturally have inside a dog..
It is a more challenging dog, but in the long run worth it.

Most have dogs who we feel are better or worse or lacking,I think it's across most things in life.
