    German National Dobermann IPO photos

Been meaning to post this pics for a while but never got round to it. There were 2 good dogs out of the 12 that I saw. Quality of the field was poor compared to the GSD Championship the day before that I watched.
Quite scary to see the poor turnout and quality of entrants in a country where they say you can still get good working dobermanns from.

    Enjoy

Great pics Jonathon. Sad to hear the dobe situation is no better there then here. They are quickly becoming forgoten as a working breed unfortunately. What a big difference the tail dock and ear cropping makes though. That dog just looks mean. Something about a long thin tail and big floppy ears doen't really scream KILLER.

I know you said they didn't measure up well against the GSD's you saw, but in your opinion how do they measure up against the dobes we have here. Do you think that importing dobermans is a step forward or just a lateral move. I am keen to here other opinions on this aswell.

    Hey Craig,

Honestly I have not seen one working dobe around Sydney. So I can't really say how they measure up.
The only working/sports dogs I have really seen are the ones at my IPO club and Schutzshep kennel dogs.

The first dog posted in those pics (Buma) was the champion of the day. You could see the way he would bark at the sleeve that for him it was a game. Other than that he was physically a very strong dog. The helper had a difficult time trying to start the drive.

Escara v. Ferrenberg (the cropped ears) was very intense. She wanted to rip the helpers head off! She lost marks cos she became dirty and control went out the window, she just wanted to nail the helper.

At the GSD trial the dogs were very well polished in all facets of the obedience and protection phases. At the Dobe trial it was very messy all round. There were a few at the GSD trial that had the intensity and civil aggression as Escara v Ferrenberg.

With importing I think it would be a good move to increase the gene pool of good working dobes. I know that there are a few kennels that have imported semen from Ferrenberg, Burgwald etc that produce very intense dogs. This is a good thing.
As much as it is looked down on I think that producing more litters to increase numbers is important at this stage. This is so the breeders can select the good dogs from each combination of breeding then start their own lines from there so as not to have too much inbreeding. Statistically more good dogs would be available to breed from.
I just don't know whether there would be enough working homes for these dobes with all the other breeds.
I guess if all the working dobe breeders(internationally) co-operated and set out a genetic plan the dobie could be saved as a working breed.

    My thoughts
