Hi Adder it is best to contact the breeder you are going to purchase your pup from and ask these questions, you will have to transition your pup off the food the breeder is feeding to avoid the pup becoming sick.

You will need to feed your pup 3 times a day, I would never fast a pup, they expand a lot of energy and have a hard enough time extracting nutrients from the meals they do get.

You will be constantly changing the ratio as the pup grows, as long as you are feeding a quality dry food to start off with the pup will do fine. You will find the recommended ratio on the side of the bags is fairly large and should only be used as a guide, I normally feed less than what is advertised but judge the ratio on how healthy the pup is looking.

What was the feeding plan of your amstaff when it was a pup?

Depending on the breed. I use Royal Canin when they're really little and give them a bit of fresh mince/raw meaty bones every day. I'ce trialled a lot of different foods on the market and now its the only one I bother with plus you dont have to feed that much. Now that the pup is over a year old I've got her on Vets All Natural with the mince as the predominant portion of the diet. But if a bag of RC at work swings by cheap I wont knock it lol. I dont want to stuff the growth phase particularly with a dog I want to breed with so I trust the brand, always done me right.

So little maligator went from this at about 3 months old next to her 7 year old aunt

to this at about 12 months of age. Not bad looking muscles for a young bitch.

oh and I always feed pups twice a day. Give them a raw meaty bone to chew for lunch while they're really little but after that its two meals a day. If they get a fat layer they get a starve day when they're older or down to one meal a day until they're fighting fit again. Just remember pups are a bit chubby ... dont be one of those people who tries to grow their dog bigger and better t hen everyone elses and end up stuffing up its legs or lifespan. Let good nutrition and genetics decide NOT pumping protein into it. GSDs are not fully mature until a couple of years old anyway so you have plenty of time to make sure you do it right.

You have to find which brand is best for the dog sometimes its trial and error.in my opinion Eukanuba is overrated and I have used it a bit in times gone by.I think Advance is just as good and a bit cheaper.I prefer pro plan performance but depends on your budget.I do find the advance a bit rich for large breed dogs but I am talking mastiffs so bigger than a GSD for the others it was fine. For a pup about 3/4 of a cup mixed with mince or sardines and eggs, chicken necks etc.. or 1 cup on its own and keep increasing as they grow. You will need to feed it at least twice a day once is not good enough.Never fast pups they need all they can get.Its ok for adult dogs but they are fully grown.
