Yes..but they eat major organs that store and extract all the nutrients from the contents of the stomach, like the liver and pancreas. I understand the theory behind not eating the stomach contents as this is full of acids to break the contents down. If your dog gets plenty of major organs thats fine..but should not be soley fed on flesh, fat and muscle.

Just my opnion....

Very Interesting and you do seem to have the science on your side there. My information has been much more general, I will try to find some of the information I have read. Having said that in 1987 I was travelling around Africa and while in Kenya had the oppurunity to witness a pack of African Hunting dogs hunt and kill a Topi Gazelle. It was an amazing experience to watch the hunting techniques and how much the entire pack depends on the Alpha bitch whilst hunting. We watched for hours as the pack hunted caught and ate the Topi and part of what I witnessed was the pack, especially the pups eating the intestines as well as the contents. It was something that always stuck in my mind and when I later read similar information on wolves I just took it for granted.

Besides all that I still believe dogs need a 'balanced' diet which needs to include a percentage of various meat protiens, greens, veggies, vitamins and minerals and of course bones.

Cheers,

Steve

My own dogs eat vegetable matter not pulped or anything and they eat raw carrot like bones,I do think dogs are more closer to an Omnivore/carnivore in eating patterns. I understand it it is only cats who are Obligate carnivores,I know the design of the canine teeth is for eating and tearing meat but they do eat herbs, veg and even dirt if they are wanting to,Could it be a defiency in diet? Maybe but that's the whole point at the end of the day for animals and humans alike to eat, regardless of why.JMO

my dogs get alot of 'raw' vegies/fruit, especially carrots, its more of a treat for them.
but from what i know, which is not a lot on the matter, dogs cannot digest 'raw' vegies/fruit like carrots corn apples ect. and as i have notices when they eat carrots it all comes straight back out the other end.

would that then mean that they are getting no nutrience out of them?? and they are just something for them to chew on.

i give my dogs Vets all Natural complete mix, which as far as i know is an equivalent to them eating a stomach/organs of a herbivorous as it has it all in it, but broken down so that the dogs can digest it.

That's sounds like an amazing experience BD. To watch them hunt and kill and eat. What a sight.

That makes sense.

My dogs do get organs, not as much as I'd like to give them but my butcher rarely has what I want in and getting it ordered in is a pain in the butt. I've been trying to track down a good supplier of pigs heads so that they can get a nice supply of brains :P
