A little while back on this forum as well as on DOL it was discussed how if the dangerous dog laws were acted apon, an imported Schutzhund titled dog bought into Victoria, would have to be automatically declared dangerous. This would cause problems with compolsory desexing and muzzling at shows if it was not a security dog as well.
I have just noticed an exemption was implemented recently for German Shepherds with Schutzhund titles to be imported into Victoria without having to be declared dangerous.
My question is what about all the other breeds that are imported that have Schutzhund titles!!!! Also if a dog in Australia has been trained in Schutzhund, in Victoria it is a declared dangerous dog........how obsurd is this!!!
It proves to me how much Dogs Victoria are in with the Government to butter there own bread but destroy working dog competitions such as Schutzhund!!!

Victoria really is stuffed as far as laws go.........even though this is great to be able to import them, this makes no sense at all!!!

Totally F$%KED UP State and country..... Seems overseas schutzhund trained dogs must be trained better, as they are considered safe under Victoria's laws. AS sad as this sounds, I think maybe the best thing right now that could happen is that ALL working dog breeders in Europe and the USA place a ban on importing dogs into Australia. Might get the the GSDC, ANKC, etc to wake up to themselves!!!!!

On a more serious note, I have heard certain people within the GSD community are actually dropping the Schutzhund titles off their Imports(leaving info off the pedigree transfer) because they do not want their dogs "dirty secret" achievements exposed.....Now how sad and messed up is that! All that hard work down the drain....Ironic somewhat.

I see this Exemption link has been very recently discussed on another dog forum I frequent,however it has since been closed before I got my last reply in.
I do hope some German Shepherd people read it,as there are a couple of relevant points in it if you sift through the 30 odd pages of it. Maybe it might be of interest to those who do not go to the other forum also.

As I am a GSD fan I was a little disappointed with some of the opinions on the relevance of the test that was made for that breed originally.

In 1902, Laufer felt that his police dog ideas were not being accepted, so he took action to expand the information he had gained. First, he held a demonstration that was attended mostly by police officers and in which the redoubtable Caesar appeared with a reluctant decoy. Not much is known about what this dog did or its level of training, except to say that some of the money Laufer received from the observers went towards paying the decoy's medical bills. Interest from this demonstration prompted Laufer to start an organization to promote the training and working of police dogs. This organization, The Police Dog Club (P.H.V.) was the first in Germany and predecessor to what would become the D.V.G. It !s interesting to note that one of the founding members of the P.H.V. was Captain Max v. Stephanitz, who only three years earlier had co-founded the German Shepherd Dog Club of Germany (S.V.)
the exemption was made so imported dogs could be shown and mated. Its for GSDC members too so that means people who do bitework (ergo cannot be in the GSDC) do not get the benefits
NOT so they would compete. I agree waste of a dog and what a stab in the back for all the working line people and other breeds.
