    Another of Victoria's Darkest hours!

Another of Victoria's Darkest hours for the working dog community

I received an e-mail from Judi (Pro k-9):

Sadly, I report that the Bureau of Animal Welfare, advisors to the Minister,
and the Minister himself have not agreed to any change to the prohibition on
the use of the PPCollar ('prong' collar) save that they have increased the
penalty to '10 penalty units' (formerly 5 penalty units) for breach of the
    regulation.

I would personally like to thank Judi, for all the effort and hard work she put into this fight... I am sure that many of us in the dog world, still fully support her.

The fight has not ended here........

Sadly another example of why the AWDC is needed to enlighten ill-informed people, and represent the cause of all working dog trainers and enthusiasts in Australia before this rot goes any further.

    It's sad

You know..the law in regards to e-collars has not changed. That is because in the Victorian Supreme Court.. Innotek won their case against the RSPCA.. So the government can't ban a collar that has been proven in a court of law that it is not cruel if used correctly.

The Prong is a different story.... Nobody will take RSPCA or the Victorian Gov to court to justify their reasons for banning this training tool. This law will never change unless it can be proven in a court of law that these collars are humane.

Pity there was no company in Australia (like Innotek) that was willing to put this to the supreme court!

This is bloody redicoulous!!!!.....I must be too gullible I really thought the government would see the weight of all the common sense evidence put in front of them and change this stupid law!!

I almost cried when i received that email from Jude

i can't believe that after all the hard work and running around she did, even to the last minute!! it was so blassely (is that a word?) shoved to the side and scored an even higher penalty rate??

I know some of you won't like this suggestion...

Is it an option to get the ban reversal endorsed by a respected overseas animal welfare org?

HSUS (Human Society of the United States) doesn't oppose them but does recommend against pet owners using them without training in their use.

With an org like that, even an overseas one, backing the campaign we might get a bit more steam?

I am so sad that this happened, especially considering all the work Judi put into the submission.
