A rose is NOT a rose by any other name ......

Thought I might start this one off with a "did you know" ....

As I understand it, one of the most recent legislations to have gone through here in Victoria Australia (which is the one that mostly focus' on breeding dogs) has a sentence in it that says something like ....

The Council has the power to change the breed name of your dog from what you've registered (with Council) it as, to a "Restricted Breed" provided your dog is not already registered as a "Restricted Breed".

So by the wording of it, if you own a Poodle that is registered with Council as a Poodle, the Council could come along and change the registration to show it is a Pit Bull.

I mean with legislations like this, what hope have we got????

I need to double check as to whether the legislation was passed with this wording, or whether it got altered. Or whether they had a brain-storm and decided to delete it.

    Sheesh!

Erny have you got a link to this information or something? would be interested in reading about it a bit more.. but this STINKS! if that's the case then what proof do we have.. as ppl where are our rights gone? or we never had any?

just like the bi-laws will put your dog to sleep if it was in YOUR yard and someone jumped the fence WTF i know this too well as i lost my old girl in this manner and then on top of it copped a fine for dog at large due to him busting open the fence to get out and shewent after him... ummm

Dont kid yourself , Australia is the most over governed country on the planet.
We let it happen , letting all the soft bellied do gooders have all the say.
And definitely not becoming communist, they always bred up some pretty tough dogs, we have allowed in a new form of government, it is called an idiocracy

    Hi Vomb ....

I read it via DOL. Thread posted by "Steve" some time ago, when the newest legislation was 'proposed'. I followed it for a while, but found the going tough - especially when I was trying to keep my own mind clear and unfuddled whilst I waded through all the Govt docs in relation to the submission I am doing for PPCollars (aka "pinch" collars) - so I didn't quite get to keep up with the nitty gritties of whether this particular part of the (then) proposed legislation was changed.

Have to go out to an obedience lesson just now, but will see if I can find the thread and will post back here later.

Not sure that I should be linking it here though????

    Hi Vomb ....

I didn't want to do the wrong thing by cross-linking so I have PM'd you the info. I'm sure though that many (myself included) will be interested to hear your comments and findings on it (eg confirming whether the legislation was passed with the wording interpretation as given in my OP here).

As mentioned in my PM to you, I'm a bit caught up in my own political project at this stage and there's only so much government legislation, regulations and goopligock that I can cope with and remain focussed on at one time.

    Cheers!

good luck with your issues too would be interested to know your outcome too
