The units CPPSEC3010A ‘Manage dogs for security functions’ and CPPSEC3011A ‘Handle dogs for security patrol’ are delivered by a self paced workbook which will take up to 40 hours to complete and supervised training over a maximum period of x 7 days. This is made up of 58 hours of supervised training and 5 hours supervised assessment.
Specific topics in the course include:
Selecting a suitable patrol dog.
Understanding the legal requirements when working with patrol dogs.
Understanding the organisational requirements of a patrol dog handler.
Maintaining the health and welfare of a patrol dog.
Developing and implementing training programs for patrol dogs.
Conducting protection work with a patrol dog.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All course participants must be over the age of 18 years and provide an approved dog over twelve months of age, preferably not desexed. Must be vaccinated, wormed and in good health and condition.
Suitable dog breeds include German Shepherd – Rottweiler – Malanois – Doberman – Mastiff. No banned breeds or restricted dogs are accepted.
A pre-course dog assessment is available to ensure entry level requirements. Course participants have the opportunity to undertake private lessons prior course entry.
