[=nfi;18180][=Amy Pattison;18171]Just as a side question - you said that you are looking for a dog that is very sharp has exceptional drives and is super strong nerved. What purpose is this dog going to serve?

To Scare people i presume! [/]

Obviously you never read my intro.

I have been around working line German and Belgian Shepherds all my life. At the moment I have a 14 year old German Shepherd who unfortunately is starting to show signs of arthritis in her hips/back and sadly for my wife and I, we will have to put her down soon. I also have a 6 year old Belgian Shepherd who is a handful but is a great dog.

My father also had 2 Malinois as I was growing up.

Because I have been around these dogs all my life I have fallen in love with them and feel I'm ready to move to the next stage and get more involved in the sport as a hobby. I have attended and spoken to a club about training my next dog in OB and bite work etc.

Amy, never presume anything because more than likely you will be wrong. You presume I want this dog to scare people? I don't need to scare people, I'm a good, hard working family man and if I wanted a dog to scare and intimidate, I would get a Pitbull as the mere word "Pitbull" is often enough to frighten people.

I suggest some people try being a bit more helpful to your members instead of trying to drill them and being so negative and fighting and arguing like you do in a lot of other threads I have read on here, no wonder the forum is dead. Unlike many of the breeders around Australia who just pop pups out like no tomorrow just for the money, some of us actually love these animals like our children. My dogs sleep on leather couches and live like kings and queens, not in kennels with concrete floors and with proper training they dont eat their couches lol

On another note, I would like to thank Nev, Jason and Jonathon for the incredibly useful information, very enlightening!

    cheers

    Nick,
I believe you and your wife came out to training on Wednesday? If you have any questions just come down again and you will get the answers you need there.
    Cheers

[=Amy Pattison;18182]Nobody is drilling anyone, relax, it was a joke....

Thanks for answering the question however that Monika actually raised. If pitbull comes to mind for the fear factor, though lol, perhaps I am not the only one who should not be presuming! Any medium, brick shaped head, short coated dog can be identified as a pitty, even a Lab cross!

    Very Sharp for sport?

    Cheers

There are different interpretations on sharpness which don't always mean the same thing to everyone. Ideally, the preferred level of sharpness in my interpretation is a dog with a low threshold to reacting in a hostile manner when faced with a threatening environment or direct challenge, however a dog of this sharpness level will be aloof and calm, non reactive and safe in a passive environment. A dog that will switch into defence drive fast when challenged can be determined as having a high level of sharpness which is more a trait of social aggression and dominance in my belief.

Traits of high level sharpness is often given to fear biters as a technical term for marketing a bloodline with nerve weakness that really need desexing and removed from the gene pool not be reproduced as the trait of over sharpness is a dog that reacts in hostlity to anything outside of it's family pack, usually a foggy headed animal, hard to train, focus and control with unpredictable reactive aggression, the type of dog that is incapable of passing a Schutzhund BH and is not the trait although appearing protection driven by the inexperienced that makes up a good solid working dog.

Asking for a pup derived from "sharp" parentage could result in a nerve deficient dog bouncing around on the end of the leash with massive stranger aggression wanting to bite everyone, or a calm aloof dog that only switches into defence aggression quickly when directly challenged dependant upon the individual interpreations of the "sharpness" trait.

My interpretation also of the use of 'sharp'........defining sharp as you say could be different to all, but generally it is a label given to a dog displaying the below post which you describe it well....

I have seen the two Yultzen dogs and they are awesome! They were not big dogs but I have also seen two of their offspring, one was a HUGE black male and the other was a

more medium sized sable bitch but with excellent bone. I believe they are used as security dogs and appeared to be very well trained.

So it's not a bad place to start looking

    Jolanda

    Hi Jolanda

Yes I have spoken to Ken from Yultzen Kennels, but I am happy to say that my wife and I think we have found where we will be getting our next pup from, I honestly believe

these people have the love for animals at heart and being in contact with them for the past couple of months the support I think we will get is phenomenal. So now its just playing the waiting game, waiting for the next litter.

    Hi Chris
Yes that was us. I'd like to thank you and everyone else that was there for making us feel so welcome on Wednesday night, it was truly a mesmerizing, beautiful experience.

The dogs were amazing, exactly what im looking for, able to to do what they done and then switch off and come over to my pregnant wife and I and be gentle beautiful dogs

that we were able to pat and play with even though it was the first time we met them. I get goose bumps just thinking about it, we cant stop talking about it and cant wait to

get our new pup from our friends that were there (dont want to mention any names) as soon as they have the next litter and also be a part of the club. I had actually been

trying to get down there for the last few weeks but its a bit hard for me to get down to training as I work afternoon/night shift and you guys are usually finished by the time I

finish work, but I have discussed it with my wife and if I cant make it, she will be bringing our puppy to training (if our friend that was there can do it so can my wife! ), and

yes we will definately be coming down again in the next week or 2 as we really want to see the sire train (not that we need to as we already know he is a great dog). Once we

get our puppy you guys wont be able to get rid of us, lol

thanks again mate, see you soon
