Should this read like sport dogs are soft?
Is there room for soft sporting dogs in security? Referring to crowd control and asset protection.
Should this read like sport dogs are soft?
Hi Andrew
Here we go again. I can predict where this is going to go, because i have a Christal ball and I can tell the future.
If this turns in to FCI registed Vs Unregistered debate I will not commentMaybe.

Hi all
Havent been on for a while. So here I go...
The question should be- Is there room for soft dogs in security?
too say sport dogs are soft is a big generalisation.. I know of a few sport dogs who are as hard as most service dogs...
regards
george
But the sport dog community are the ones that post more videos on sites (generally) and pretend that they do security. Soft dogs is a soft dog, whether it is doing sport or security, however most guards with shit dogs don’t post videos as they know that their dogs are not up to the task so we don’t get to see them here.![]()
Maybe that's because sport dogs do obedience tracking AND character work, more variation, maybe the posters are proud of their dogs and want to share the qualities the dog offers.

Or maybe the guards are to self conscious and don't want to be shown up! lolOh but thats right, it's all about the dog.
Just for laughs... hehe
Well Amy
Last week a security guard ended up in hospital (bashed by group of people outside a shopping centre) so I posted this as a debate not a laughing matter. At the end of the day no matter how well your dog can sit etc there is only one thing that will get you home safely and that is the dogs character. There are also certain guidelines and restrictions on handling security dogs on duty so I would like to here peoples opinion. But if you want to sabotage this post go ahead if it makes you feel good.
I think it’s all about genetics and conditioning, also the connection you have with your dog. Sport dogs can and on occasion do make extremely effective security dogs. To infer that sport dogs are “soft” is surely generalising. I would also say that as long as a security dog (sport trained or not) protects its handler effectively, it is doing what’s required, and whether you consider the dog “soft” or not isn’t relevant to the handler, it’s just somebody else’s opinion. If I was a security officer and my dog, which I may have also trained in a sport discipline, saved my bacon, I’d be totally satisfied with him/her, in fact quite ecstatic.
Are you serious saying sport dog people pretend they do security?
Again this sounds to me like you are convinced sport dogs cant cut it.And yes some cant just like some security dogs cant cut it either.
Artur I have seen alot of civil dogs that people say they use for security
that are complete pieces of shit.I have also seen civil dogs that are awesome.
The same goes for sport dogs.I think you will find sport dog people put vid up because it is their hobby they have a love for it (not saying security guards dont love their dogs) but it is a proffession and maybe dont want to be scrutanised. If I put vid up of my dog and say it is a sec dog you are going to judge it much more harshly and hey who wants the source of their income put under the microscope. On the other hand I can put up vid of my sport dog and if you dont like it who cares the only way to prove me wrong is beat me on the trial field.
Like George said this should really be is there a place for soft dogs in the industry.
This has been mentioned before as well but where do you think your security dogs come from?
