Appropriate dogs for appropriate jobs....
OR...
Horses for courses, oats for goats, and left hooks for mugs
The best sec. working dogs and the best Sch. dogs are one and the same.
Breeders aiming to reliably produce extreme aggression, superbly thick nerve, fast recovery, low threshold for aggression, extreme prey, strong defence, high levels of social dominance and a genetic predisposition towards full grip will inevitably produce more sufficient dogs for either job.
Working temperament is working temperament.
Many sport people dont get why the aggression is so important and prefer what they consider to be 'safer' dogs, working more towards prey. These dogs typically are not be suitable for real time work in tough situations, despite putting on a good show.
One thing is for sure though...of the great many dogs i have seen 'on the job' the dogs most people use for security work would never be suitable for sport work.
The fact is, at least the lesser sporty type dogs are trainable.
Sorry guys, in Victoria sport based breeding, for the most part at least, would be a much better bet than a lot of the crap people try and put to work.
It's really a moot point though....why should you have to choose? Tactical application of a top quality sporting dog is a matter of training.
