    Hunting

Hi i didnt know where to place this but......

Im in the process of getting my gun license and i wanted a hunting dog it then dawned on me however odd this might sound that i might be able to train my mallie to serve that purpose

What i would need for her to do is the following tasks

Seeking out large game and indicating
Retrieving small game e.g. ducks , rabbits
following large game that has no dropped

Thats about it but im not sure if its possible i dont think its been done before ?? so any ideas of firstly if its possible and then how one would go about accomplishing that task ??

I would prefer not to get another dog if i can get away with it ! : )

I know here in Vic if you want to use a dog for hunting large game like deer you can only use certain breeds and the dogs have to be tagged and registered during the season.

If it was me I would buy a dog more suited to a hunting dog. A pointer sounds like something you want, we met one when we went deer hunting a couple of years ago this dog went bananas over game and was nice and loud. Something inherent in the breed like baying when they have a scent then bailing it up will be better then a silent tracker. Don't forget your GPS collar if you want to go in the mountains Apart from that, get with a group that already has hunting dogs and try yours out with theirs. Hunters usually train dogs by letting them follow another when they're young so make sure yours is friendly.
