and gone to town on a new dress lol

its the first time hes done it i think
whats the best way to stop it with out putting him in his pen each time i hang the washing out
he is only 9m old so he is still a baby

    Hi Nathan

Mine does the same thing if left to her own devices. Try giving him something to play with which will take his attention off the washing on the line.........I give a wheelbarrow tyre and only when the washing is going out on the line, once the washing has been collected, take the tyre away otherwise it'll lose it's novelty effect with the dog if you allow him to keep it. Try that each time the washing goes out; get him interested the first time. Be careful the steel cord doesn't wear through; check it regularly.

    Hi Nathan

This method really only works if your dog HATES water.....coz otherwise it may just make him all the MORE enthusiastic to rape the washing line!
What I've done in the past is to hang a few garbags with water in them so that obviously the dog will get both the shock & a drenching when he next jumps up and tears at the "washing!"

Other people have advised using chilli.....mustard....pepper....etc and soak the edges of the dummy clothing with those products....but these are hard-a--ed working dogs we're talking about....so it probably won't make the difference!

You've already mentioned the foolproof method and that's to move the dog when the washings out....or change the location of your line to where the dog won't have access!
There's many a dog owner that dries their washing on a clothes horse out of range of those 42 chompers!
I would buy your wife a new dress and a bunch of flowers and then think of changing your routine so that the dog's away when the washings blowing in the wind!
After all on a windy day it strongly resembles good ol' rag action and you don't want to punish him.....and hence effect his natural prey drive!

I agree with John's post.....as well as wheelbarrow tyres you can pick up go-kart tyres for free next time you n' the boys all happen to go karting....they are more than happy for you to take their old tyres away!

Best of luck.....he will thru this stage soon enough!

Well yes it would be rather comical watching them get a-drenching whilst they are setting themselves up for a bit of fun!
I guess you could always set up nanny-cam!
We use cameras for our whelping females.........not that expensive these days either!

The other obvious solution that some would suggest is to use the e-collar.....but again you would have to be sitting back and watching so as to catch young DEXTA in the act......and of course Murphy's Law says it aint gonna happen whilst you're watching!

One of the many joys and effects of having a working dog pup. Till now you have encouraged him to bite rags and tugs. Enjoy.
    Easy enough kennel him.

its prey, all that lovely flapping washing!

What you can do it grab a couple of old towels or bed sheets and slather them in something like deep heat, crib stop etc and hang them up. Let the dog learn its BAD to do it. Then what you can do is when you hand your normal washing up you hang a couple of strips of fabric with the same stuff to remind the dog of the smell and bad taste.

Or you can just wait. 6 1/2 years my malinois is 90% reliable with washing LOL
