Some great suggestions from everyone and I am sure most ideas will work. I always thought getting a dog suppose to give you enjoyment, company and NOT a second job. I guess that you all highlighted the importance of picking the right breed for your lifestyle and not changing your lifestyle for the breed.

I think it sounds like a pretty typical young working dog.

I agree with building drive and mental stimulation helping here. Once you have a way of harnessing that drive it sounds like it has the makings of a nice working dog.

I think that you got it wrong all together.

Although i agree that some breeds have more drive then others and some are even docile, but i still believe that in every breed you will find dogs with higher and lower drive and ability.

If you want a Working dog you will choose one of the working breeds and yet within the breed you will find dogs with different levels of drive.

Some people think that they want a high drive dog and yet they are not prepared for it when they get it.

Most recently I have had some German shepherd dogs that i thought one had high drive, it is nothing compared to the Malinois i recently got.

Now i know what high drive really is, but saying that i have seen some Malinios at one of the sport clubs that had same drive as my GSD so as you see it is not just the breed but also individual dog within the breed that can differ quite a lot.

I agree with Amie on the individual dog within a breed comment. It is true with my breed and others I have seen. Also High drive to be put to any real use must be accompanied by a strong threshold to pressure situations. All the high drive in the world is just a naughty dog to the average dog owner..

The only driving that I do is in my car and I do not let my dogs drive it. Call it what ever you want a dog that can not settle down after you have worked it is a pain in the ass (to me) which ever way you look at it. There are plenty of dogs Mals included with high drives and are bought up the right way from a pup and are not a pain in the ass. If you select your breed or raise your pup the proper way they will be a joy not a second job.

I was responding to the post not to you.

Yes exactly. It is one person's perception on the dog, high drive/ low drive, it's all the handler experience that counts and goals can be achieved along the way.
