    Does your dog get jealous

    Hi to all

I jaust wanted to start this topic, due to the fact that for years i have been told that dogs dont get jeelouse.

Yet my dog is displaying verry perculiar behavour.

    let me explain.

The other day i was in company of another security guard walking around the dogs are both social so there was no isue with that.

After about two to three hours of walking around we stood and talked for a while, and during this time my dog was in a sit.

My partners dog came to me so i petted him and my dog jumped up on me and started to paw at me and started to nip at me. She was fine as long as didnt tuch the other dog, but the minute i tuched him she was going mental.

I told her off put her back in a sit and started to pat the other dog again and again she did the same thing so i told her off even firmer and put her back in a sit.

Since like i said for years i have been told that dogs dont get jelouse.

I was wondering if any one else had expirianced this or if any one has any explanation to it (maybee Mark) haha

    Thanks for your replys

    Adam

re: Does your dog get jealous

I don't know if all dogs get jealous but I have a dog which definitely does and another that couldn't care less.

If I am patting the one who is non plussed, the other one just has to get in on the action, he pushes in and squeaks and carries on to get the attention. Reverse the roles and if "jealous dog" is getting all the affection the other one is happy to sit back and observe or go on her own sweet way.

Maybe our K9 friends are not too different to us humans in that respect and "jealously" or lack thereof is a trait we find in varying degrees from person to person (or in this case, dog to dog)???

    Hi Adam, great topic.

I think you have to understand your dog before diciding what it is about.

I had a dog years ago that would do that when she knew the dog couldn't be trusted. She even jumped the fence to get between me and a stray dog, me not understanding put her in the house and went back out to this stray flying me, I trusted my dog after that.

Cherri is different, some dogs she know are allowed to come over but others I'm not allowed to touch. If it was jeolously I'd think it would be all dogs...
Does it work that way with you Adam? Is it different when working or at pleasure?

Maybe your dog is protecting you from the other dog and trying to tell you he is from another pack and he is there for working?..

I would like to hear from Mark about this.
