    Barking

    G'day guys,

With my drive training I am encountering a problem. I've got it in here rather than the drive forum as this is a symptom of it, not about it.

As his drive increases, his barking is increasing as well. I'm not reinforcing it. He only gets let out of his run when he is quiet, out of his crate when quiet, food when quiet. No attention at all.

But because he is a bit bored and frustrated he has taken to boredom barking.

The only option I see at this stage is to use a bark collar. He barks at anyone who walks down the drive way. He barks at the kookaburras, he barks at lizards, he barks at rats, he barks at kangaroos.

Anything remotely interesting, results in barking. We live semi-rural so whilst it isn't as bad as it would be if we lived residential someone will complain eventually. He doesn't bark at night which is fantastic.

So, any other options than a bark collar?

I trained my dog to bark on command and to stop barking on command from an early age. If she barks on her own patch (territorial), I stop her with my command to stop. Generally she doesn't bark until she's told, but not always (dogs will be dogs).

Given that you are using an ecollar in your general training, won't using a no-bark collar confuse him? From what I remember from Steve's seminars, bark collars have a higher stim than ecollars and some dogs after having a bark collar on got quite anxious and confused when they then tried to train with an ecollar later.
