Do you own a Pit Bull?

Warning - 22 Point Test Causes Idiots To Think They're Dog Experts
Does your dog have a medium sized head, short coat, and wide open nostrils? Oh no! You could be living with a killer!

Save the council the trouble by taking the '22 point Pit Bull-type' dog challenge today!

Do you usually walk on 2 legs?

Have you a moderately functioning brain?

Do you know little to nothing about canine behaviour?

Did you always want to be in a cop show?

If you answer yes to most of these questions......congratulations. Please report to your nearest council by laws office or RSPCA branch. You will do a great job of seizing Chi's to Labs who fit the "APBT profile".

I shivered the first time I saw this shit and it is no less disturbing to be reminded of the horrific ignorance of those who are paid to serve us.

Profiling can be a dangerous thing.....using the US system most of you are probably serial killers! Don't laugh too long, ignorance spreads faster than intelligence.

Thankfully , England and a few other European countries are rolling back on their BSL. Wonder how long it will take our beaurocrats to get over it ?
It is sad , how our wide brown land has become the most over governed in the world

"Usually when people are sad, they don't do anything. They just cry over their condition. But when they get angry, they bring about a change."

    Malcolm X

What more can be said.......whether you own this breed or otherwise you should be angry. The laws may have passed years back, but an unjust law is no law I will ever adhere to.

Re: Do you own a Pit Bull?

A couple of weeks back I had a telephone guy from a Pit Bull breeder who was after an American Bulldog, his wife has an AB and they are thinking about getting another.

Anyways, I have never had a telephone convesation with a total stranger like this in my life.......to say we "clicked" is an understatement!!!!.......7 hours later at 2am with hung up.

I am meeting this breeder next week as he is moving to a town within an hour of me. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the guy has lived for a number of years overseas, but for the last three years did a "traineeship" with Ceasar Millan.

Now this guy, like Ceasar, is in love with the Pit bull breed. So much so, he wanted to bring his dogs back with him into Australia. His dogs are dual registered in the USA as Pitbulls and Amstaffs with the UKC and the AKC. To cut a long story short he spent nearly $50 000 fighting the Government to get them in.......and he won!!!

The reason for the ruling going in his favour basically was for a number of reasons but in the end there is no DNA test to identify the breed as a Pit Bull as a breed and specifically as a different breed to the Amstaff. The Government tried to say they have professionals, 22 point list, etc, bla bla.....but in the end they could not scientifically show proof the dogs were Pit Bulls and even so call experts can not over rule DNA...........the dogs were allowed into Australia as what is stated on their DNA breed profile......."Breed Unknown"

As you can imagine this has huge ramifications for the breed and the laws that are meant to prohibit them. In short if you have the money and want to take it all the way you will win!!

Hopefully, due to this common sense ruling the BSL laws in Australia will be totally eradicated or at least totally modified. The guy has his dogs in the country and all the paperwork required to say he can legally own them and breed with them.............I did mention to him he may run into trouble with the new compulsory desexing laws in Victoria, but he should be able to get around these very easily as his dogs are also registered as Amstaffs!!!

As I mentioned he is a very interesting bloke and I have full intentions of getting him on this forum. I will give you all more details when I meet him and his dogs next week.

    Cheers

Steve can I just ask why, if these dogs were registered as AmStaffs then why did he have trouble bringing them in? You shouldnt have any problems bringing an AmStaff into the county. I know plenty of imports, in fact Im about to do a breeding with one.

Sorry dont mean any harm by this, just wondering what the problem was.

As mentioned I will be meeting him in person next week so will go over all the details. The problem to my understanding was they were dual registered and he did not hide the fact, so that is why it went to court.

I will let you know after I meet him and see his dogs but will get him on here himself in the near future.

The 22 point checklist always made me laugh. All those with dogs that fit the description raise your hand. How many cross bred pig dogs and others fit it?The fact that they adopted something put up by someone with nothing more than a year 10 education is astounding to say the least.I guess they never figured that anyone would challenge them.Wrong.

Nice story Steve and I dont wont to be harsh or use the S word but why would he bother? If he had amstaff papers. Not that it matters as you dont need papers to bring a dog in anyway. Why would you highlight it?To me that is just plain stupid. To waste $50 000 that he didnt need to.The blood tests take about 3 or 4 weeks and quarantine 4 weeks. He could have had his dogs sitting on the couch 2 months later and $50 000 richer if he said nothing. Its ok to be right but some times better to be quiet. Now they know he will be in for more harassment that you can count on.people have known for a long time th loophole that exists via tha amstaff and even if they changed existing quarantine to make it mandatory to supply DNA and registration papers with microchip it is still able to be exploited.
I have had several discussions with politicians here over the issue and have bluntly put it to them that they can round up every pitbull in this country and Euthanase them and within 2 months I will have another pair here.Only they will have nice amstaff papers and there will be nothing they can do about it and I will take them to the Canine association that sold us out in my state and show them as Amstaffs and they wont be able to do anything about it either and i will do so out of sheer spite.

I dont see the law changing here anytime soon,in fact I predict a few more states will follow before anything changes. The problem is politicians dont need to nor do they research everything before they pass a law.Its about media headlines, emotions and winning votes at the next election. Not about whats morally right.Until they put emphasis on the dog owners responsibility nothing will ever change in this country and to an extent I agree. Not everyone should be just allowed to own any breed of dog and in a perfect world and ethical breeder wouldnt sell to just anyone but we know that is not the case.As much as I am a staunch supporter of the pitbull and always will be they are not the breed of dog for just anyone and its too easy for someon to get rid of the problem and absolve themselves of all responsibility and move on to the next breed, when it is them who is the problem not the dog.bottom line is it is always easier to legislate against those that cant speak thatn it is against stupidity and those that can and politicians will always take the easy way out.I still do not agre with the principles of BSL and will always do what I can to fight it but I dont know what the solution for this country is nor do I just beleive everything should be repealed in the blink of an eye including importation. The problems they face in the US are becasue they have sat on their hands for too long and things are out of control and they feel blanket bans are their only option instead of enforcing current laws and putting money where it would have counted.Thats why politicians always use the US as an example and it is a bad one.The only thing they are an example of is extremism.
