    THE QUOTABLE PIT BULL

"SHE'S so loyal, affectionate and sensitive. If I ever get another dog, it'd have to be a pit, because I love their personalities." -- Bernadette Peters, singer/actress, speaking about her pit bull, Stella, from "It's Jaws Not True!"

"IN my opinion, pit bulls are the least likely to be human aggressive. On the whole, you have to do a lot of work to make them aggressive to people." -- Sue Frisch, Dessin Animal Shelter manager

"WE have not had a single serious problem with any of the pit bull adoptions. In fact, people tell us their pit bull is the best dog they've ever had. Some come back for a second one." -- Marsha Biggar, "Adopt-A-Pet," Stamford, CT, from "Man's Best Friend"

"THIS dog is smart, playful, affectionate and loves to sit and watch TV. I've had many other kinds of dogs, but this one is calmer than a Lab or a golden retreiver and easier to train. " -- Susan O'Rourke, pit bull owner, from "Man's Best Friend"

"HE'S kind, generous, never showed one moment of aggression, even after all he has been through.'' --Virginia Nicholson, who adopted an abused pit bull, from "Remember Petey and Nipper?"

"She seems like a very happy and well-adjusted dog - amazing given her early experiences! Although she had no idea who I was, she was gentle and affectionate with me from the minute I first held her. What a wonderful heart." --Liesl, who adopted Blossom, an abused pit bull, from "Blossom"

"He is a favorite of everyone in my building, including the kids, one of whom once hit him on the head with a stick for fun. What was his reaction? He shook his head, grinned, and went back to happily licking his attacker." -- Amber Niewold, pit bull owner/rescuer, from "Rupert and Me"

"She's the one dog I always trust to tolerate human babies and small children." -- Donna Lindsay, owner of RCA, from "Alaska's First Certified Hearing Dog"

"I FIND them to be the easiest dog to train of any breed that I've ever worked with, both in terms of intelligence and devotion." -- dog trainer/pit bull owner Bill Berloni, who has trained six pit bulls for Broadway shows, from "It's Jaws Not True!"

"Pit bulls are famous, in circles of knowledgeable dog people, for the love and loyalty they bestow on anyone who shows them a smidgen of kindness." -- Linda Wilson-Fuoco, journalist

"I grew up having all kinds of dogs, but I've found that pit bulls are the most affectionate and by far the smartest." -- Tom Maxson, from "Man's Best Friend"

"SOMEHOW he had managed to come through unimaginable hardship, not only clinging to life, but maintaining a positive attitude, which was, to me, an inspiration." -- Dr. Max Rust, DVM, owner of a pit bull rescued in a cruelty case, from "Pete the Healer"

"People don't realize what an amazing dog a pit bull is. In World War One it was one of America's most decorated and beloved dogs. They're very loyal and affectionate. Stella is the gentlest dog, all she wants to do is cuddle." --Bernadette Peters, singer/actress/pit bull owner

"I'd always had dogs -- German shepherds, Labs, Newfoundlands -- but this dog has given me more affection and loyalty than any other animal. I have cats, nephews, and I've never had a problem. Banjo sleeps with me, cuddles me. I trust him completely." -- Linda Morrisey, pit bull owner, from "Man's Best Friend"

"Pit bulls are especially good at pleasing people since they are strong and smart, they learn quickly and they are very adaptable." -- Rob Mullin, dog trainer, owner, "Man's Best Friend"

They are a great dog when well bred.
Any person who believes in the bullcrap media hype clearly has rocks in their head, and still lays out carrots and milk every evening on Dec. 24th in the hope that santa will bring him a new brain!
BSL is terrible and ineffective, a politically motivated vote grabber, and sadly the APBT is just the first in a long line of dogs that will be descriminated against.
    Great post Mark,

    Brad

    Good post Mark indeed ,
Brad is right about the APBT being the thin end of the wedge , the Denmark Govt have just voted in favour of Banning 13 breeds, where will it stop , BSL has not lowered bite rates anywhere, yet they go on ???

BSL is a waste of time effort and cash. It doesn't reduce bites except it will reduce great dogs if it keeps spreading.

Carrots and milk?? I use cookies and milk but i'm not in need of a brain, just feel sorry for weird old guys lol!

    Cheers

i have owned a pedigree pitbull in the past, she was heavy redboy bloodlines with a little jeep. tiny game bred bitch , very stable dog loved kids, but was very animal aggressive . its these back yard breeders that are wanting to make a quick dollar that sell un papered dogs and sell them as pitbulls , they dont know the back ground of the dogs that they are using, but breed them cause they have a red nose or look like a pitty. makes me sick!

Id agree with you that is some of the problem but it also depends what your definition of a back yard breeder is.Just because someone has papered dogs doesnt make them an 'ethical breeder'.There are still people out there selling papered dogs that are puppy farmers who care only about the cash and not the dogs they breed.Breeding dogs that spend the majority of their time chained up.Breeding offf of pedigrees they know nothing about not using the dogs for any purpose.Tell me how they know what they are breeding. They are interested in one thing only.
I still know fella's that have been in the dogs since day 1 and some of them dont register their dogs but they arent selling them either and as I stated somewhere before I swould still rather buy a dog with a hand written pedigree off of a real dogman than a papered dog off of a conman and conmen and pitbulls go hand in hand unfortunately.Having 20 dogs chained in the backyard doesnt make someone a dogman. The problem with pitbulls is they are not like every other dog and most people do not understand them and what they need and I would go as far as to say that goes for the majority of people that still own them.Understand your dog and his mindset and there will be less pitfalls for you along the way.
The pitbull was destined for failure in this country for that reason and becuase of the usual suspects that shouldnt own a hamster let alone a dog.I constantly hear from the purist gallery if they were ANKC registered it would have saved them and I am here to tell them wrong. It would not have. The wrong people will always be attracted to them becuase of mostly their reputation and that is their downfall. What irks me most is the government here used misinformation, lies and media propaganda for the most part to fulfil their agenda. Not one single fatality in nearly 30 years that really says it all for me but what would I know.
